I stopped by during my walking trip along the Koshu Kaido. At the pass there's a monument commemorating Emperor Meiji's imperial tour, and the site of a former teahouse. I'd heard you could enjoy views of Lake Sagami and Mt. Fuji from near the summit, but... I couldn't make them out.
View on GoogleAbout 40 minutes from Mt. Kagenobu. Coming from Mt. Kagenobu it's a gentle slope, so it's easy to walk. Conversely, from the other direction it's uphill the whole way, so it might be tough.
View on GoogleKobotoke Pass, on the border between Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture. Elevation 548m. It's a pass on the old Koshu Kaido, but it isn't a road cars can use. It's located midway between Mt. Kagenobu and Mt. Kobotoke-Shiroyama. The pass itself has an open area, and you can tell there were probably teahouses and the like here in the past. It's surrounded by trees, so the view isn't all that great. These days, the only people passing through here are probably hikers traversing Mt. Takao, Mt. Jinba, Mt. Kagenobu, and Mt. Kobotoke-Shiroyama. When I hear "Kobotoke Pass," the Chuo Expressway's Kobotoke Tunnel comes to mind. It's also a notorious traffic jam spot. That tunnel runs a little north of Kobotoke Pass. The JR Chuo Line runs directly beneath Kobotoke Pass. Few people pass through Kobotoke Pass today, but the surrounding area has become a key transportation hub with expressways and railways. I climbed up from the Kobotoke bus stop. After that I headed for Mt. Kobotoke-Shiroyama and Mt. Takao.
View on GoogleThis is around the area above the Chuo Expressway's Kobotoke Tunnel, a notorious traffic jam spot. There are spots where the view opens up, but it's not very wide. Apart from that, there's always a map seller here, so I stopped by again today. The map of the Daibosatsu Ridge, which continues west from the eastern Yamanashi map I bought before, had been published, so I couldn't help buying it.
