Great cozy restaurant to visit when you also visit Shinshouin temple or pay respect to Matsu-hime's grave. Nice and friendly owner (?) and very tasty home cooked style curry.
View on GoogleA stylish café attached to Shinshō-in. You can have curry and parfaits I had the Matsuhime-sama zenzai! I wonder if the matcha has a bit of aojiru mixed in? It's not too bitter, so don't worry. After paying your respects at the temple, you can take a relaxing breather.
View on GoogleThe seasonal flowers decorating the tables, the carefully made dishes and desserts, and the lovely tableware are soothing. The staff were kind and courteous too, and even as a woman dining alone I could eat at ease. I'd like to visit again.
View on GoogleI looked it up on Google during the summer heat and went. It felt like a sweets shop inside a temple, with a nice atmosphere, and the service was very courteous too. However, the shaved ice looked kind of like half of it had fallen off, which was a bit disappointing, but it was delicious.
View on GoogleThis is a temple café in the grounds of Shinshō-in, a Sōtō Zen temple. I thought the storefront would have a Japanese feel, but surprisingly it had a Western-style atmosphere. Despite the Western-style look, it isn't flashy — I thought it was a lovely café with a chic, calm atmosphere. This time I ordered the chickpea curry and iced coffee & anmitsu. The curry had lots of vegetables, wasn't too spicy, and was delicious. The kanten in the anmitsu was 100% tengusa and had a satisfying texture♪ It seems like nothing else on the menu here would be a miss either, so I'd like to go eat again (lol)
