Moto-Hachioji, Hachioji City, Tokyo 『重兵衛寿し』 At the counter during the evening service, I had the "Omakase (13 pieces)" for 7,700 yen. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy sushi in Hachioji or Takao! 【Restaurant】 From JR Takao Station, head north on Takao Kaido (Metropolitan Road 46) toward Akiruno for about 5 minutes 【Access & Parking】 🚌 There's a bus that runs to a stop 1 minute's walk from the restaurant. 🚗 There's parking for about 4 cars across the road from the restaurant. There's a restaurant sign, so it's easy to find. 🚖 I took a taxi from the station; it's 2.4km and costs about 1,000〜1,500 yen. 【Exterior】 A calm Japanese atmosphere. A two-story building. There's a sign and it's highly visible, so you can walk in without getting lost. A stone path and a green noren curtain welcome you. 【Interior】 The first thing that catches your eye when you walk in is a big tree. And a thick single-plank counter. The counter is L-shaped, seating 5 + 2. There are also private rooms: two fairly spacious rooms with tables and chairs. These are easy on the knees. There are also two raised tatami areas for 4 people each — it's quite a spacious restaurant. 【Menu】 There's a menu booklet on the counter. Sushi and drinks are clearly listed, very easy to understand. (See photos) 【Alcohol, Drinks, etc.】 They also make beer, shochu, sake, and sours. There are soft drinks and after-meal desserts too. Now, let the meal begin. The owner here makes hidden cuts in the topping of each and every piece, seasons it, and serves it. As the customer, you just eat it as is. You get to enjoy it exactly as the restaurant intends, and I love this style. Please also enjoy the fine details in how the toppings look. ⚪︎ Appetizer "Buri daikon & oysters" At this point I'd already said "Delicious!" out loud. I emptied a mug of draft beer on the appetizer alone (lol) ⚪︎ Separate order "Oysters" (from Iwate Prefecture) Plump oysters with ponzu that isn't too sour. When you stuff one in your mouth in a single bite, a creamy yet clean scent of the sea spreads through your mouth. I don't want to swallow (lol) As someone from Iwate Prefecture, I was really happy they were from Iwate. ⚪︎ Omakase (13 pieces) 1. Kasugodai (春子鯛) A name I'd never heard before — apparently it's young sea bream. Born in spring and small, its cherry-blossom-like color makes you feel spring. The flavor is light, as you'd expect from white fish. But it still has a solid sea bream flavor — a delicious fish. 2. Engawa This one surprised me. Engawa that's 100 yen at conveyor-belt sushi. This is something else entirely. In the first place, I feel like you don't come across raw engawa very often. Crunchy yet springy, and the more you chew, the more the flavor and fat slowly seep out. The fat isn't heavy and is really tasty. 3. Spear squid In-season spear squid with salt and sudachi. Crisp squid with a nice bite. The light squid flavor, with salt and sudachi, gives an even cleaner aftertaste. 4. Chutoro The red-fish representative of the day was chutoro. A perfect chutoro with a great balance of lean and fat, letting you really taste the lean meat. Personally I'd love to eat lots of toro like this (lol) But I like otoro too lol 5. Mackerel (cured) The silver-skinned fish representative was mackerel. I was surprised there was none of its distinctive fishy smell. And the curing vinegar was on the sweet side too, so it was very light. 6. Scallop (seared) The texture of raw scallop blended with the toasty aroma from searing made me feel really indulgent. This one also with salt and sudachi. 7. Marinated tuna This one with an added hint of yuzu. It felt like an elegant, refreshing breeze blowing in. 8. Ark shell (akagai) Akagai, said to be at its best in winter. Thanks to the hidden cuts, the texture is fun, and you can really savor the umami of the shellfish. 9. Firefly squid For this one you could choose gunkan or a small dish. I chose the small dish and had it with wasabi soy sauce. 10. Sea urchin I had bafun uni. Since it held its shape well, I could tell it was very fresh. The rich umami left me speechless for a while (lol) 11. Anago Softly simmered anago with just the right amount of tsume sauce. Melt-in-your-mouth anago. I want to sleep on this futon (lol) I feel like I could eat any number of these. 12. Kanpyo roll & tamago The meal wrapped up with a kanpyo roll. The well-cooked tamago was tasty too. Huh? 12 pieces? 13. Warabi mochi A classy touch. This warabi mochi is amazing. Jiggly~ and the moment you put it in your mouth it softly vanishes. The vanishing warabi mochi (lol) Enjoying sushi made by the owner — who looks so cool at work and has a lovely smile — while chatting across the counter. I had a really great time. Sushi in Hachioji Sushi on the way back from hiking Mt. Takao Sushi for a little celebration Sushi when you want to drink with good food Moto-Hachioji, Hachioji City 重兵衛寿し — I recommend it.

View on GoogleDelicious sushi I'd ordered takeout several times, but now that the state of emergency has eased, I visited the restaurant for the first time I really wanted to take photos of the sushi, but looking at it made me want to eat it... and before I knew it, it was gone (sweat That's how delicious the sushi here is The hassun I had before the sushi, the only thing I managed to photograph, was also delicious I'd like to visit again
View on GoogleI visited today. The owner's great personality, the quality of the food, the good service — I was completely satisfied with all of it. The interior was simple, yet every single decoration was carefully chosen, and it was wonderful. I'd definitely like to go again. Thank you for the meal!
