A long-established shop founded 35 years ago, popular and long loved by locals. The interior isn't particularly spacious, but this shop in a detached house has a homey atmosphere, with posters displaying pages from when it appeared in the manga 『ラーメン大好き小泉さん』. I dislike lining up, so I avoided lunchtime and arrived after 13:30. The lunch rush had ended, with only a few customers at the counter. I was alone that day and was about to sit at the counter too, when the proprietress said, “It's quiet, so please relax at a spacious table,” and showed me to a table for 4…. This proprietress, who is something of a local attraction herself, is incredibly kind♪ Another specialty here is the 『八王子らーめん+カレーセット』. You see that at set-meal restaurants and neighborhood Chinese places, but curry at a ramen specialty shop is unusual, haha. The 『八王子らーめん』 looks exactly like classic Hachioji ramen! The raw onions look pungent at first glance, but they're heated by the oil, leaving them crunchy yet slightly sweet. The broth has the dark soy-sauce color characteristic of Hachioji ramen. But it doesn't hit as hard as it looks; the umami of the combined chicken-bone & seafood stock and the sweetness of the chopped onions are gentle, making it impossible to stop spooning it up. The noodles are straight and medium-thin, with somewhat low hydration. They're firm by default, giving them a clean bite, and they slip down easily with the broth clinging to them. An unusual touch is the shop's original topping of finely julienned ginger! Its refreshing aroma sharpens the finish, so alternating with curry doesn't make the meal feel heavy. And my personal top recommendation is the chashu! It's torched just before serving, making it wonderfully fragrant♪ That roasted aroma also transfers to the broth and stimulates your appetite. It's so tender it almost falls apart when lifted with chopsticks, and the thick slices overflow with meaty flavor. In this otherwise gentle ramen, the chashu's presence is insane, haha. Then there's the shop's specialty curry rice! Rather than a curry that hits you with spices, it puts the stock's umami front and center, having been simmered with ramen broth. With mild heat, onion sweetness, and savory stock, it's a flavor I've never tasted before yet somehow find nostalgic. The size is great too! Since it's meant to be eaten with ramen, it's a little more than half a regular serving of curry rice. Neither too much nor too little, it's perfectly balanced as ramen's companion. Honestly, on my first visit, I wondered, “How well do ramen and curry really go together?” But before I knew it, I'd enthusiastically finished everything, haha. And above all, the proprietress's warmth truly sinks in…. I think there's more than just the ramen's flavor behind why places like this remain loved for so long. I'd recommend it not only on days when you want delicious ramen, but also when you just want some comfort(^^)/~~~

Following last week, this is my second Hachioji ramen shop♪ The couple's very courteous service toward customers left a great impression(*^^*) I ordered a large chashu-men with extra onions. It arrived with loads of onions spread across the dark but slightly sweet broth. I'll break it all up to eat anyway, but personally I prefer the onions piled into a mound when served. The chashu was fairly thick, very tender, and delicious(*^^*) The finely julienned ginger scattered over the onions was a clever touch too♪ Their attentive service means customer turnover isn't fast, but there's paid parking nearby, making it relatively easy to visit by car♪

My first visit. The parking lot was immediately to the left of the shop. When I entered, they explained the self-service water and showed me to a seat. It seemed to be run by 2 women, and their thoughtfulness came through in the way they spoke to customers and so on. The menu isn't extensive, so choosing shouldn't take too much deliberation. The recommended option is the ramen and curry set. ¥1100 Neither looked especially large, so I thought the portions would be manageable for women too. The menma ramen I ordered was also modestly portioned, enough to finish even the broth. The chashu had a meaty chew, and they seemed to torch each serving to add a roasted aroma. The broth was somewhat oily, but the ginger accent was nice.

I split my time between Yamanashi and Hachioji, and I cycle past this place on my way home from work on weekdays, so I'd been curious about it. Since it only stays open until late afternoon, I hadn't managed to visit, but I was in Hachioji over the weekend for furniture installation work at my new home, so I headed here on Sunday afternoon. I ordered the curry set that so many reviewers mention. The price had risen slightly to 1100円. I entered at 13時半, and the curry sold out with the customer who came in after me, so it seems best to arrive early if you're after curry. The ramen was a regular portion, but it had one fairly large slice of chashu and a few chunks of meat, which were also torched during plating and were quite delicious. The broth was a conventional shoyu, but pretty good. The noodles were thin and balanced well with the broth. The curry had a variety of spices coming through, and I thought it was quite tasty. Isn't this a reasonable price for a ramen and curry set? I ended up quite full. I'd come back when I feel like curry and ramen. Thank you for the meal.

Stopped by for lunch because I wanted Hachioji ramen, Contrary to the shop's name, it's run by motherly ladies, Just as the reviews say, the ramen has a gentle flavor and the curry pairs well with it, Maybe I'll order shio ramen next time, Give it a try at least once(ΦωΦ)
