One of the hidden notable mountains of Hachioji, TOKYO. At the back of Shingen-in's large parking lot you can see a rounded mountain. Going between the seated Great Buddha statue and the torii gate, you hit a dead end with a hiking course map; whichever way you go, left or right, the paths merge further on. The left is the mountain-trail shrine route, and the right is the Onnazaka route with views. I went left and reached the summit in 23 minutes. It's an observation spot with a proper summit marker. The view is superb, opening out to what seems like a 180-degree field of view. The name apparently comes from there once having been a temple hall at the summit, but you can also clearly tell it must have been a fort at the same time. The path has lots of fallen leaves but isn't steep, and you can walk it in sneakers. I recommend going up via the shrine route and down via the Onnazaka route. On the Onnazaka the view opens up several times as you descend, so I think it's better to save that scenery for after the summit. Once you're down, be sure to pay your respects. The main hall at the bottom is very large and splendidly built.
View on GoogleA hill about a 20-minute climb up from Shingen-in. Good views to the east. There are tables and chairs made by locals where you can rest. Depending on the season, there are lots of bugs (lol)
View on GoogleA peak between Hachioji Castle and Ongata. Good views. It's maintained by members of the local mountain club.
