Established in Showa 54 (1979). There are 4 tables and 2 tables in a raised tatami area. I had the Yashima special ramen. It's described as ankake ramen with pork and vegetables, but despite being called ankake, it wasn't thickened. The portion was underwhelming, too. It might be better eaten with rice.
View on GoogleA set-meal restaurant frequented by locals. Reasonable prices and a wide-ranging menu. I recommend the special ramen, ginger pork set, and karaage set. The seasoning is a little strong, but the soup is lightly seasoned, so it balances out. The karaage was incredibly delicious. →Especially recommended. Portions are normal. The set meals come with potato salad, which is excellent, too. It feels like a casual place where you could enjoy drinks in the evening.
View on GoogleIt felt like a diner with a nostalgic atmosphere. I had a large serving of the special ramen. It was meat-and-vegetable ankake ramen with slightly strong seasoning, but the thickened soup really soothed my tired body after trekking Hachijo Fuji. The vegetables were crisp and the noodles chewy!
View on GoogleWhen I asked locals on Hachijojima, the name "Yashima" came up most often. (As of 2023) This renowned Hachijojima institution had been open for 44 years and might be the island's only? place making its own noodles. It was a wonderful ramen diner offering many kinds of ramen, with the feel of a neighborhood Chinese restaurant that combines tradition with new ideas. The owner recommended the "Yashima special ramen." But while researching beforehand, I'd read somewhere that the "chicken karaage ramen" was good, too, so I asked for "Yashima special ramen with chicken karaage" (+ an individual chicken karaage topping!). What a winning choice!! If you like karaage ramen or paiko (pork rib) ramen, this outstanding karaage ramen will knock you out completely. And "special" here turned out to mean "vegetable ankake." Ramen packed with ingredients and a meat-and-vegetable ankake topping. Add "karaage" to that and you get "chicken karaage and vegetable ankake ramen," so... It was a total knockout!!! So incredibly delicious. Flavor-wise, it's a salty vegetable ankake ramen, but not very viscous—more like a slightly thickened soup. And the noodles are delicious!! Honestly, these might be the number one noodles on the island?! The staff are kind, the second-generation owner is a real gentleman, and everything was great!!!
View on Google2023.05 I stopped by because I wanted ramen to finish the evening. That day I had the "Yashima special ramen, 850 yen" and "Sapporo Beer (large bottle), 650 yen." The ramen had a slightly thickened soy-sauce-based soup. It was packed with ingredients, substantial, and very delicious. I arrived just before last orders, but they welcomed me gladly. Next time, I'd like to come a little earlier, enjoy drinks at leisure with individual dishes, then finish with a set meal or ramen… I'd like to use it as an izakaya.
