A beautifully maintained site that offers a great understanding of the island's history.
View on GoogleThe museum is almost entirely in Japanese, but has a lot of interesting artifacts and photos that document the history of Hachijojima. It was also renovated very recently, so the exhibits have a fresh, new look to them. Did you know that this island was once a place where criminals were exiled? The museum has extensive records on these exiles, including the length of their stay and type of crime. The theater room also broadcasts short films about the island’s history every few minutes, and is worth a watch even if you don’t know Japanese. Overall, a must-visit for fans of history.
View on GoogleGood museum to know the culture and history of Hachijo island. Japanese emperor came before and there's many photos of his majesty. I've heard that this museum is going to be fixed to enforce its strength for earthquake.
