I visited on Sunday night after mistaking it for the major New Tantanmen chain. The restaurant is quite old. It's fairly spacious and uncrowded, so I could relax and watch TV. I had a large sesame tantanmen for 680円, a set-meal add-on for 120円, and a half-price beer for 225円, totaling 1025円. Honestly, the tantanmen was just average. I felt it wasn't much different from supermarket noodles you boil at home. The gyoza seemed homemade and were reasonably tasty. Payment is cash only. With free large noodle portions, a 120円 set-meal add-on, and half-price beer for one glass only, the prices are very reasonable. I was full for a total of 1025円, but I suppose the taste matched the price.
View on GoogleAll the nearby ramen shops had queues, so I tried this place. I think it's a Chinese restaurant run by Chinese people rather than a typical Japanese ramen specialty shop. It's also different from the New Tantanmen that originated in Kawasaki. The simplest ramen was seafood ramen, and it was really delicious. I think 680円 for this is hard to find right by a station. They also have a good selection of drinking snacks and apparently all-you-can-drink options, so I'd like to find a chance to go for drinks.
View on GoogleA neighborhood-Chinese-style restaurant about a 3-minute walk from Fuchuhommachi Station. There's an extremely famous ramen shop next door, so people probably tend to go there, but this restaurant is actually quite tasty too. There are 2 types of tantanmen, salt and sesame. I've tried both and think the salt version tastes better. The dried-sardine ramen is quite good too. On my first visit I ordered ramen + gyoza, but ramen + the set meal (3 gyoza, rice, and zha cai) is better value. Besides ramen, I've also had the young chicken karaage set meal, which was quite good too. Individual dishes are for drinkers, set meals are for diners, and there is a wide selection of main dishes.
View on GoogleFor neighborhood Chinese food in Fuchu, this is the place! This lively entertainment town with its shrine and racecourse has many famous restaurants, but I like this one. New Tantanmen is run by a husband and wife who came from Fujian Province 18 years ago. It has absolutely no connection to the chain restaurant. My recommendation is the “sesame tantanmen” for 680円, with a free large portion! The medium-thick egg noodles are boiled slightly firm, and their aroma, sweetness, and chew are irresistible! The richness, savoriness, and aroma of sesame, the spicy sweetness of ground meat, and the textures of wood ear mushrooms and bean sprouts! The best…! There are plenty of delicious restaurants around here, but they cost close to 1000円. Those have their place too. The first draft beer is half price at 225円. The generous homemade zha cai arrives right away and costs 380円. The 2-hour all-you-can-drink option for 1280円 is outrageous. Of course, they have a full range of delicious Chinese dishes with selectable spice levels. From around 2 in the afternoon, I spend all my time on my phone in an uncrowded seat with a Keika Chinshu sour. After visiting the shrine, it's straight into an escape from reality. Such a satisfying way to spend time. Closed Mondays, open from 11:00 to 23:00. Blend into a neighborhood Chinese restaurant and reset yourself. Head home early, then give it your best again tomorrow!
View on GoogleThey stay open continuously from opening time through the evening, making this a great place for daytime drinks too. From noodles to individual dishes, everything is inexpensive and tasty. 2024/11/23) Added photos of the food.
