Shiraitodai bunker is one of the few structures that remain today from WWII Chofu air base. The structure is protected by a fence. It was located in the western part of the base. It is likely it protected Ki-100 as well as Ki-61 aircraft from the 244 sentai, Imperial Japanese Army Air Force. Their mission wasto protect Tokyo and also the nearby Nakajima factories.

View on GoogleA precious aircraft bunker remaining in Tokyo. It sits all on its own in a residential area. If you didn't know anything, it would just look like a kids' playground, but it's a storage facility for protecting fighter planes from air raids. You can't go inside, but you can still enjoy it from the outside. It's surprisingly small. I had no idea Chofu Airfield was once used as an Army-only airfield. It was a valuable experience
View on GoogleAn aircraft bunker is something like an air-raid shelter for hiding and protecting fighter planes from air raids. You can't go inside, but the surroundings were neatly maintained. There's an information board and a bench
