Don't let the tiny sitting area and no-frills vibe fool you - Grandpa's Ramen Spot low-key has some of the best and most affordable Japanese grub in town. This cozy little place is run by an 86-year-old Japanese guy who's just the sweetest, jolliest dude you'll ever meet. He's always going around with a big smile, making sure everyone's taken care of and having a good time. It's like getting served by the world's cuddliest teddy bear grandpa. The food is phenomenal for the stupid cheap prices. I got the vegetarian ramen and it blew my mind. The broth was rich and so flavorful, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and it was loaded with fresh veggies. Simple but so satisfying. While you're chowing down, you can catch whatever baseball game is on the TV, which adds to the chill, homey atmosphere. It's not luxurious by any means, but who needs fancy when the food is that good and the vibe is that inviting? I'm pretty much obsessed with Grandpa's at this point. Every time I go, it feels like I'm getting a warm hug along with an amazing meal. Seriously, do yourself a favor and get over there ASAP for some of the best cheap eats around. This little hole-in-the-wall is an absolute gem!

The gyoza were crispy and delicious. I'm not someone who minds dirty restaurants much, but it was more unsanitary than I expected, and it took real courage to use the chili oil, vinegar, and such on the table. The ramen was lukewarm too, but the gyoza were good so I gave it 2 stars.

A diner that's an evening gathering spot for the neighborhood folks. A good-natured old guy is waiting for you.
