【Not a 'roadside station' but a 'river station'☆ A tea shop along the Kyu-Edogawa River】 Hongyotoku, Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture. This tea shop is in Joyato Park, on the embankment along the Kyu-Edogawa River. All the nearest stations are some distance away, but the most convenient are Gyotoku Station or Myoden Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line. Let's take a break while looking at the river. The breeze feels lovely*ଘ(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭* It was my first visit to Gyotoku, and with some spare time in the afternoon, I headed toward the river. This area seems to be a cycling route. There are older guys fishing too. Walking along the Kyu-Edogawa River from Gyotoku toward Myoden, I discovered a tea shop. Sure enough, it's listed on Google Maps: '川の駅 あづまや'. Discoveries like this make me happy(◍•ᴗ•◍) I decided to take a look right away. Is it family-run? There were two women inside. ◆Today's order◆ Zenzai 400円 Iced coffee 300円 It was quite busy, so it probably took about 15 minutes to be served. The zenzai was ordinary, but the coffee was the real thing, properly drip-brewed. Quite delicious(๑´ڡ`๑) Spending a relaxed moment watching speedboats on the river, anglers, and cyclists feels wonderfully luxurious. #Maegashira #TeaShop #JoyatoPark #KyuEdogawa #Cafe #SweetsShop #Soba #FriedFood #Yakisoba #ApparentlyTheCurryIsGood #Takeout #LovelyBreeze #VisitedInEarlyMay
View on GoogleIt's an old-fashioned shop beside the river. I think 'tea shop' is a fitting description. Considering its location, it's quite an unusual place. Of course, it isn't a fully fledged? restaurant, but above all, enjoy the atmosphere and this wonderful retro moment. It's not about how the food tastes...(The fried foods are pretty good, though.) Everything is reasonably priced too. They even stock vegetables, senbei, and cup noodles. Haha. How about a break here during a riverside walk??
View on GoogleI often use this as a rest and lunch stop when riding my road bike on the Edogawa Cycling Road. At shops in town, I worry about my bike being stolen and can't enjoy a leisurely meal, but here I can eat with peace of mind, which really helps. The photo shows the soba and mini curry set for 650円, topped with a 100円 croquette. It has that typical standing-counter eatery taste, but that's nice too. Apparently, they're closed on Mondays, Fridays, and days with bad weather. Well, indeed, no one would come if it were raining.
View on GoogleVisited on a cold morning. Apparently, the staff arrive sometime after nine. Light meals such as curry, croquettes, and menchi are delivered from a butcher's shop around 10. Curry 300円. 辛ラーメン 350円. On this cloudy, cold morning, I ordered hot coffee to warm up. The wind blowing along the river was strong too, and coffee alone didn't warm me up at all. It's surprising to find a shop on top of an embankment like this, and even more surprising that it sells light meals. Cheap ones, too. I've never experienced this kind of location and price range, so I couldn't imagine what would be served. But it would surely warm me up. Packaged 辛ラーメン is tasty and certain to warm you up, so I ordered it. Then curry. That would almost certainly be good too. However, they said it wasn't something they could make immediately and wouldn't be delivered until around 10, so I decided to wait. The curry is made elsewhere and brought over... I see. Meanwhile, croquettes and menchi started appearing at the storefront. They even sell croquettes in a place like this. They'd be fantastic added to the curry, so of course I added some. When I saw the finished food, it looked truly delicious. The portion was ample too. The croquettes and menchi had an unmistakably authentic, appetizing texture. The 辛ラーメン also had vegetables added and looked delicious. Curry and ramen eaten in the cold river breeze taste several times better. Looking out at the Edogawa and the opposite bank is wonderful. Apparently, the delicious, authentic fried foods are specially made by 肉のアズマ. Now it clicked. The shop's name is あづま屋. So that's the connection. This is fantastic, right? The Edogawa embankment road connects Myoden to Urayasu and is ideal for walking, running, and cycling. It's so welcome to find an unexpected shop here.
View on GoogleA shop on top of the Kyu-Edogawa River embankment. The term 'tea shop' fits it perfectly. Besides tea and coffee, they have udon, soba, yakisoba, curry rice, ramen (instant), omurice, fried rice... just about everything^ ^ Vegetables and fruit from nearby farms, along with inexpensive sweets and snacks, are displayed at the storefront. On sunny days, local elderly people drop by here and there to drink tea and chat about all sorts of things, making it a 'social gathering place'. 'Curry' seems to be the specialty here. You can also see regular customers taking curry home for lunch... The open embankment scenery and gentle, homely atmosphere put you at ease. Besides the subway Tozai Line, you can also visit by bus (Motoyawata Station〜Shin-Urayasu Station). I think it's a nice place to stop by while taking a walk or a short trip^ ^
