Great please, the owner was very sweet and helpful. We used google translate to communicate and it worked 100%. She is the Japanese grandma we all want! Also grandpa in the back is cooking some amazing Japanese food!
View on GoogleThe food there was amazing and my personal favorite is the karaage the combo with mayonnaise and rice is to die for if you are a tourist or a Japanese I would still recommend the grandma is very friendly and the grandpa cooks it very well
View on GoogleMy favourite restaurant in Mizue! The owners are lovely and they serve a beautiful Katsu Curry that I can’t get enough of! Highly recommended :-)
View on GoogleI also go around trying tonkatsu, and having heard this place had a good reputation in Edogawa, I visited on Sunday at lunchtime. Many independent neighborhood shops are run by elderly people and keep declining, but this one is run by an elderly couple and has a new, clean interior. It's a shame that magazines and other things are scattered untidily on the tables, giving it a cluttered feel. There was a lunch menu even on Sunday, and I ordered loin katsu with a large rice for 1210円 from their daughter? It arrived in about 10 minutes. The tonkatsu looked thin, but with red miso soup and pickles it felt somewhat luxurious. Starting from the middle without adding anything, the pepper and salt seasoning was so strong that I couldn't taste the meat's savory flavor, and it seemed salty. However, the coating adhered firmly to the meat and didn't peel off. The rice and cabbage were high quality too, surprisingly beyond the 1100円 level. Since this place serves locals, I think it's a challenging setting where service, seasoning, and pricing require extra care. ⚫︎Tonkatsu is a curious food: expensive doesn't necessarily mean delicious, and cheap doesn't necessarily mean mediocre.
View on GoogleA local tonkatsu shop I'd wanted to try because of its good reviews, despite being quite far from Mizue Station. I ordered the 1,100円 loin katsu set for lunch. The coating was somewhat hard and crunchy, the meat was cooked thoroughly through, and its texture felt a little tough. It may be a matter of preference, but honestly I wanted a slightly lighter, crispier texture and more of the juicy, savory fat characteristic of loin. My assessment might have been different, though, if I'd ordered the premium loin rather than the lunch option. Another small point: the miso soup was too weak, so I did wish they would add a little more miso. My expectations were too high, which made my review somewhat strict, but it's only based on my personal preferences, so take it as a reference. Many people seem to order the katsu curry, so I'll try that next time.
