魚串さくらさく 人形町総本店Uokushisakurasaku Ningyocho Sohonten
魚串(Uokushi)was born in Kagurazaka, Tokyo, in 2009. As meat consumption increased and people moved away from fish, could grilled fish, part of Japan's traditional food culture, be preserved in a form suited to today's eating styles? After much trial and error, “魚串” emerged: whole fish prepared and cut into easy-to-eat, bite-sized pieces, then skewered and grilled like yakitori. In addition to simple salt grilling, flavor variations were developed, including homemade Saikyo miso marinades and basil sauce. There are also uokushiage, such as skewered fried roe-bearing kombu and salmon, and aburimeshi skewers that let you enjoy ikura and uni in a grilled-onigiri style. The food was great for the last night in Tokyo. I wish they had some fresh veggies to counterbalance the fried and grilled food. Having a balanced meal in Japan has been a highlight of our journey. The manager/owner was beyond kind, and the women were attentive at ensuring out plates were cleared (not always the case in Japan).
View on GoogleJust had one of the best Izakaya evenings! We came into Uokushi completely by chance and were welcomed very warmly. Purna was behind the counter, serving delicious grilled and fried fish and seafood while we had such a nice conversation throughout the evening. The food and drinks are top notch, especially for the price. Secret favorite: the fried chicken! Seriously, just try it — you won’t regret it. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for an authentic and genuinely welcoming Izakaya experience in Tokyo. Thanks for everything :)
View on GoogleOutstanding skewers and a fantastic atmosphere. This is my fifth time coming here, and every visit has been excellent. The food is consistently delicious, and the quality of the skewers is exceptional. A special thanks to Purna for the wonderful service and great conversation. He is a genuinely kind person who always makes guests feel welcome and well taken care of. His attention to detail and friendly attitude make the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended, and I will definitely be coming back again.
View on GoogleThe staff were so friendly and accommodating. They had English menus and cooked the skewers in front of us. Food was oishi oishi. Loved every dish especially the eel with broiled rice wrapped in seaweed
View on GoogleBest experience for a izakaya! Anyone who has second thoughts on waiting. Wait, and sit at the bar and hang out with the chefs! 1st time here and won’t be the last. Came here with my best friend and already planning the next visit!
