Elaborate breakfasts, simple meals & desserts at a chic, modern cafe overlooking a Buddhist temple.

Our café is located in the café area of the Honganji Information Center building, a 1-minute walk from Tsukiji Station. “Wa Cafe Tsumugi” is a new style of café that resonates with discerning women, offering a comfortable space incorporating Japanese motifs and colors (indigo), along with Japanese-inspired drinks, meals, and sweets. The “18-dish breakfast,” exclusive to the Tsukiji Honganji café, is extremely popular. The number 18 refers to the “18th Vow,” the fundamental vow among Amida Buddha's forty-eight vows, known as the “Primal Vow.” Rice porridge comes with unlimited refills, so please enjoy it to your heart's content with the colorful side dishes.

Elegant cafe serving an 18 piece breakfast. We stopped in for some drinks to go. Iced matcha latte with brown sugar syrup, matcha latte and a watermelon juice. Also treated ourselves to some Kuzumochi pudding. All was delightful and flavourful. Staff was also very attentive and friendly, and happy to serve in English. Highly recommend!

Tsumugi Café – A Peaceful and Delicious Escape in the Heart of Tsukiji, Tokyo 🇯🇵☕ Tsumugi Café in the Tsukiji area is one of those places that immediately makes you feel at ease. It blends traditional Japanese charm with a modern, minimalist atmosphere, creating the perfect setting for a relaxing break in one of Tokyo’s most energetic districts. The moment you walk in, the warm lighting, calm music, and attentive staff set the tone for a truly enjoyable experience. What makes Tsumugi Café stand out is the exceptional quality of its food and drinks. The coffee is smooth and fragrant, prepared with great care, and easily comparable to the best specialty cafés in Tokyo. Their selection of Japanese-style desserts and small dishes feels both authentic and refined, beautifully presented and full of delicate flavours that highlight the essence of Japanese culinary tradition. Whether you choose a matcha-based treat, a seasonal cake, or one of their signature sets, everything tastes fresh and thoughtfully crafted. The café is also an ideal stop for travellers exploring the Tsukiji area. Despite being close to the lively market streets, Tsumugi offers a peaceful atmosphere where you can sit back, recharge, and enjoy high-quality food away from the crowds. The attention to detail, from the plating to the service, reflects the Japanese dedication to hospitality. A visit to Tsumugi Café is a moment of calm, flavour, and genuine Tokyo charm. If you’re in Tsukiji and want a place where tradition meets comfort, this café is absolutely worth a stop — a memorable experience you’ll be happy to return to on your next trip to Tokyo.

Got here after 8:30 when a waitlist had already started. I got seated after about 30mins and orders the Tsumigi Original Breakfast (the Japanese style breakfast set with 18 items) and it was so worth the wait :) The atmosphere was very calm and there was ample room for diners to enjoy their meal.

Very lovely restaurant offering a beautiful Japanese breakfast with a bowl of rice porridge, soup and 16 little dishes (14 savory and 2 sweet). It was a wonderful way to start the day. Wish they offered additional porridge as some of the dishes were very well seasoned (ume plum and meintaiko). Definitely worth braving the Tokyo subway system during morning rush hour!

Got table 18 for the 18 breakfast! We made a tourist mistake a rocked up at 10:30am with no reservation and guess what, it was sold out 🥲 But luckily they allow (at least when we were there) to make a reservation for the next day! It was amazing to see it within the temple grounds. Returned the next day and heaps of people were just waiting but with a reservation we just strolled in, sat and ordered our 18 set meal. Definitely an experience to have a range of Japanese breakfast items to taste in a cafe style but to me its a once and done as while well cooked and presented, wasn’t a fan of everyone of the 18 meals. More of a photo op experience with a focus on food variety.
