If you want to experience how Tokyo's office workers actually eat lunch, Owariya in Kodenmacho is the real thing. 🍜 No frills, no queues winding around the block, no Instagram angles — just a classic shitamachi (old Tokyo downtown) soba shop that's been feeding the neighborhood for years. I came for my first-ever curry soba, and it delivered. The broth is thick and spicy, clinging to the thin, firm niku-ni-hachi (80/20 buckwheat) noodles in a way that keeps every bite warm and satisfying. Pork and onion are generous, and at around ¥910, it's one of the better-value bowls you'll find in central Tokyo. The atmosphere is pure Showa-era canteen — counter seating, efficient service, a menu board on the wall. It's not a destination restaurant, but that's exactly the point. This is the kind of everyday spot that keeps a neighborhood running. 💡 Pro Tips: - Curry soba (kare nanban) is the move — don't overthink it - Come at lunch on a weekday to experience the full salaryman energy - The set menus with rice are solid value if you're hungry
View on GoogleGood soba restaurant, but you had better to order extra size of soba as very little amount. Variety of alcohol from lunch time. Not so expensive. No credit card acceptable.
View on Google4 dishes took 1hours and a half. I ordered 5 dishes but it came only 4. Not recommended for foreigners. They cooked for local first.
View on GoogleA perfect place to eat dinner. Me and my husband were looking for a nice spot and this place is great. Good food, not so crowded upstairs, and good service.
View on GoogleThis is the worst meal in Japan ever, we as the foreigners ordered 5 dishes(2 of them no need to be cooked, the order 3 are fried foods) it takes 1:30 hours to get only 4 of them all on my table, the missing one could be mis understood. Btw, this is not acceptable since they served the food to locals first rather than foreigners as us. I’m not sure if this was communications
