ミュゼ浜口陽三・ヤマサコレクションMusée Hamaguchi Yozo: Yamasa Collection
A museum that houses and exhibits the works of copperplate printmaker Yozo Hamaguchi. Opened in November 1998 by Yamasa Shoyu Co., Ltd. Yozo Hamaguchi was born the third son of Gihei Hamaguchi, the 10th president of Yamasa Shoyu, a historic soy sauce company founded 360 years ago. Yozo Hamaguchi pioneered a unique copperplate printmaking technique called color mezzotint, and the serene world created by this outstanding skill has captivated many fans. In 1996, Hamaguchi returned to Japan after many years living abroad in Paris and San Francisco. With the artist's own approval, we opened a museum to display the many works brought back. Today we also hold special exhibitions, events, and printmaking classes that introduce the appeal of copperplate prints. Access ▼ Suitengumae Station on the Hanzomon Line…

Intimate, succinct, and well-thought out museum that showcases Hamaguchi’s work. Visitors get to appreciate the laborious and intricate process that is mezzotint. There were some interactive portions that were the “cherry” on top.
View on GoogleThis small museum displays mainly mezzotint artwork by the late Yozo Hamaguchi. His artwork is both unique and very interesting. Many of Hamaguchi’s artwork utilizes a lot of black coloring but yet it is not dark. Rather the black helped to draw out the warmth of the other colors. Unfortunately photography is mostly restricted so I don’t have any to share. It is definitely a nice museum to visit if you’re in the area.

View on GoogleA quiet private art museum just a short walk from Suitengumae Station. The artwork is wonderful, of course, but the sophisticated, modern interior design is also appealing. The attached café space has a nice atmosphere too, making it a perfect spot for a grown-up holiday stroll.
