MUSEE GINZA_KawasakiBrandDesign
Completed in Showa 7. The only Great Kanto Earthquake reconstruction-era modernist building facing Showa-dori. Just as a life gains depth with the passing of time, architecture too matures in character and grows more attractive. MUSEE GINZA_KawasakiBrandDesignBldg. survived the Great Tokyo Air Raid and has watched over Tokyo's history for 90 long years. Today, though sandwiched between high-rises, it stands with a dignified presence as the only modern building along Ginza's Showa-dori. It is also a wonderful building that transcends time and deserves to be passed on, studded with Japanese architectural craftsmanship such as the decorative tile exterior walls and cedar ceilings popular at the time. From a demolition plan due to the construction of a new high-rise tower…

May 2024 Visited during the Tokyo Architecture Festival A distinctive building
View on GoogleI visited during the Tokyo Architecture Festival on 2024/05/25. The building's walls, covered in decorative tiles that look like ceramic plates, are beautiful. Apparently it once became almost like a ruin, but seeing it carefully renovated and preserved on a prime spot on Ginza's Showa-dori, you can really feel how loved it is.
View on GoogleA modern building, a prewar heritage that escaped the fires of war. The owner was Isuzu Shokai, an oil merchant. It retains traces of its days as an oil shop, such as floor openings for hoisting goods. While the exterior is a simple modernist design, the decorative tiles said to have been fashionable at the time are striking. It has an unusual structure mixing reinforced concrete, concrete blocks, wood, and more. Until 2013 it was called "Miyawaki Building," and the small restaurant "Shushi Kotsuzumi" was a tenant there for 40 years. Currently "Ginza Retro Gallery MUSEE" uses all floors, and the "Ginza History Archive Room" inside the gallery is open to the public.
