Simple outpost for Yamaguchi Prefecture's specialty kawara soba noodles, cooked on a clay roof tile.
An izakaya serving kawara soba, a regional specialty of Yamaguchi Prefecture. It operates as a kawara soba specialty shop at lunch and an izakaya with a wide range of local Yamaguchi sake at dinner. View on GoogleA place I'd wanted to visit for a while; even though it's the main branch, it isn't that spacious. I ordered a course meal. I enjoyed the flavors of home. The fried fugu was probably the tastiest. You could choose Yamaguchi-style or Tokyo-style kawara soba. Yamaguchi has thick noodles, Tokyo thin noodles. I suppose the sauces use sweet soy sauce for Yamaguchi and salty soy sauce for Tokyo? Personally, I think kawara soba tastes better when it's a little more charred and crispy, with the char, sauce, and tea aromas coming together. Still, everything was refined, though I laughed at the dessert being uiro... There was also a wide selection of delicious Yamaguchi sake. People from Yamaguchi might find more nostalgia in the other dishes than in the kawara soba.
View on GoogleTwo of us booked for Friday at 19:00. The restaurant was probably almost fully booked. The interior is on the small side, with a bright, tidy, clean atmosphere. Besides kawara soba, you can enjoy Yamaguchi Prefecture specialties through the snacks and local sake. There aren't many places in Tokyo serving kawara soba, and the snacks are quite tasty, so I think it's a good option for drinks with Japanese food. The snacks in the evening drinks set we'd selected in advance through our online reservation were 4 items: lotus root tempura, dashimaki tamago, tofu, and thick fried tofu wrapped in pork belly. They were perfectly ordinary, but the portions weren't bad either. 【What we ordered】About 9,000円 total Evening drinks set (several snacks, kawara soba, a drink) 3,600円×2 Sake tasting flight 獺祭 shochu (with soda)
View on GoogleA Yamaguchi restaurant sitting on its own in Kayabacho. The selection of drinks is very extensive, with many options from Setouchi and Yamaguchi Prefecture. I recommend the grilled vegetables and soba served on the roof tiles that are the restaurant's signature. They felt like dishes you couldn't eat elsewhere. The staff are pleasant too, making for a comfortable meal. The restroom is shared with the building, so opening the door and finding yourself in the building's corridor is a surprise. The restaurant isn't very spacious, so I recommend booking.
