The specialty of this restaurant is sun dried fish. The fishes served with excellently prepared high quality rice makes for a very delicious meal. Prior to the meal, the restaurant serves a small sample of a soup broth that is flavorful and fully imbued with what the primary ingredient in the stock. One day it was uni. A second time it was oyster. Both were delightful. The side dishes for the meal includes an addictive dried fish furikake that is devoid of additives, takuwan, umeiboshi and a pot of broth for ochazuke. Also included is half a shot glass of a milk/amazaki drink that finishes the meal nicely. The sun dried fish is a wonderful complement for the rice. If I was not trying to limit my consumption of rice, I can eat at least 2 big bowls of rice with the fish and furikake. The restaurant recommends eating half of the rice and fish as served, before saving the remainder to consume with the broth as ochazuke. 😋 It was so delicious! The restaurant staff were kind and attentive and helped us to enjoy the meal fully.

It’s a small restaurant that specializes in dried fish. The restaurant is mostly a shop where you can buy dried fish, furkake and other products. The menu has limited items and the explanation for how you should eat the fish is translated into English. The food took a bit of time to make but not too much. Accepts all forms of payment .

I had some time before the movie, so I was looking for somewhere to grab a quick bite and fill my stomach. I was in the mood for fish, so I visited 干物まる. There were product shelves inside too, so I could buy things that caught my eye to take home. Apparently, they can cook and serve whichever fish you want from the display! I thought I would take a look next time! I ordered the hokke set meal♪ I was surprised when 1 incredibly large hokke arrived! I couldn't finish it alone, so half went to my husband... haha I could turn it into ochazuke, sprinkle it with dashi furikake, and eat it in different ways, so I didn't get bored right to the end. This dashi furikake was so delicious that I bought some to take home! haha I still sprinkle it on onigiri and things now🥰 You can have a set meal, or enjoy an individual fish+beer as a snack. It is an irresistible place for fish lovers!

2025.09 On my regular check-in at コレド室町, I went to the dining spot まる that I visit every time. The mother who used to look after me has retired, and her daughter has taken over. I wanted to see the mother, but apparently she works at the shop at lunchtime irregularly, about 1~2 times a week, so the timing didn't work out this time or last time (July 2025)・・・ So this time, I added a photo of dried muroaji. The dried fish was delicious as always. 2014.08 The irregularly updated excursion series (日本橋 edition). The gathering at コレド室町 ended successfully (?), but here is a report on another restaurant from my scouting visit (also in コレド室町, of course), written up from my notes. Dried toroaji ochazuke: They grill it after you order, so it takes quite a while. It arrived after about 15 minutes of putting the “ふりかける天然だし” always available on the counter onto the back of my hand and snacking on it. The aji was quite large, with plenty of umami in the flesh. First I ate it as is, then with white rice, and finally poured in the broth and added toppings. The broth itself is mild, so I think you add “ふかける天然だし” as needed. The fish was high quality, but I also thought it made a very delicious dashi ochazuke.

A dried-fish shop in the basement of コレド. There is a small eat-in space at the back, where I had a drink after work (actually 2 drinks). The menu mainly consists of set meals, but you can also eat the dried fish sold at the storefront inside by paying the fish price&a grilling fee. Most dried fish fall in the 1千円〜3千円 range. They aren't cheap precisely because so much time and effort goes into them. Even without seasoning with soy sauce or anything, they had just the right saltiness and delicious fish umami. Above all, the staff's hospitality was wonderful, and it was incredibly comfortable.
