I believe Chinese restaurants in Japan can be broadly classified into five types. The first type consists of restaurants where Chinese chefs cook for Chinese customers—often referred to these days as “GACHI CHUUKA” restaurants. The second type features Chinese cuisine adapted for Japanese tastes by chefs who are Chinese or of Chinese descent; these establishments sometimes include the names of Chinese regions in their signage. The third type comprises high-end Chinese restaurants that serve Japanese-adapted versions of Chinese imperial cuisine. The fourth type consists of family restaurants that operate chains specializing in Chinese cuisine. The flavors are standardized and produced in a central kitchen. The fifth type is the “machi-chuka” (neighborhood Chinese restaurant), an independently owned Japanese-style Chinese restaurant with a counter and small tables inside—a casual spot that anyone in the neighborhood can easily visit. The hallmark of Japanese-style Chinese cuisine is its use of mild spices and a flavor profile characterized by salt, soy sauce, and MSG. Depending on the establishment, cooking methods that use less oil are preferred. Since the Meiji era, Japanese-style Chinese cuisine has evolved independently, resulting in menus that do not exist in China. This restaurant falls into the second category, and Chinese is frequently spoken among the customers inside. The popular “Dan Dan Noodles” here differ from the original Chinese version, featuring a rich sesame-flavored broth with ground meat and bok choy adding both color and variety to the dish. While the spiciness is relatively mild, the depth of the broth pairs perfectly with the slightly thick noodles, making for a highly satisfying meal. In addition to Dan Dan Noodles, the lunch menu is extensive, offering many options for elaborate dishes that provide excellent value for money.
View on GoogleMy first visit, just before 13:00. The place was about half full. I chose the recommended Sichuan-style dan dan noodles with sesame paste for 1050円. Looking around, there were surprisingly quite a few women dining alone. The bowl arrived in just under 5 minutes. The broth is thin, but the sesame paste is thoroughly blended in, giving it that delicious dan dan noodle flavor. The spices aren't particularly complex, but the balance of sesame, heat, and stock is simply good. The toppings are sparse: bean sprouts, ground meat, and just a token amount of greens. Rice is included too, but well, it's the rice you'd expect at a Chinese restaurant with lunches around 1000円. It works nicely mixed into the broth. I'm also curious about the mapo noodles and the gomoku soba for 950円. Maybe I'll come back.
View on GoogleWithin walking distance of Tokyo Station from the Yurakucho side. Along Showa-dori, around Kyobashi before you get to Takaracho, there's this authentic Chinese place🥟🥠 You can order all-you-can-drink even with individual dishes, and bottled beer🍻 is included! There's water spinach, but that stir-fried pea shoots dish is just perfect! So crunchy! We ordered all sorts of other things, and 10 of us ate, drank, and made a racket (sorry about that), so 6,000円 per person is something to be grateful for these days! Probably under 4,000 if you don't go wild with the food and drinks? Don't quote me on that.
View on Google華龍飯店 ■Lunch menu: sweet and sour pork set 1000円 I often have lunch around Kyobashi–Takaracho, but today I went to 華龍飯店 facing Showa-dori. There are lots of reasonably priced lunch options. I chose the sweet and sour pork set. A satisfying lunch with plenty of meat and vegetables in the sweet and sour pork. Egg soup and zha cai are included too. Full up And everyone lived happily ever after ♪Taste 3.0 Average Chinese food ♪Service 3.2 The coordination among the Chinese staff is impressive ♪Atmosphere 2.5 Packed at lunchtime, with cramped shared seating ♪Value 3.3 These prices are cheap for this area Overall average 3.0
View on GoogleVisited on a weekday in R8.4 at 11:34. Shared a round table inside and ordered pork and bean sprout noodles for 950円 with a free small half-portion of rice (paid afterward with PayPay). The food arrived after about 5 minutes. The pork and bean sprout noodles were reasonably tasty. Thank you for the meal. A reasonably tasty Chinese restaurant.
