” a specialty coffee shop roasting its own coffee, has arrived in Tokyo's Nihonbashi. Following the well-received “BONGEN COFFEE Tokyo Ginza,” we opened a new shop in the Nihonbashi area, where history and tradition live on. Located a 5-minute walk from Nihonbashi Station, 6 minutes from Mitsukoshimae Station, and 8 minutes from Tokyo Station's Yaesu Exit, it is easy to stop by between sightseeing or business activities. “BONGEN COFFEE Tokyo Nihonbashi” offers, among other selections, “BONGENオリジナルブレンド,” carefully roasted at our own Ginza roastery, 《白節》SHIRAFUSHI…

Expect to pay around ¥1,750 for an espresso matcha latte, while their selected retail beans can skyrocket to over ¥10,000 a pack. The wait was manageable - 10 minutes for a table and 15 minutes for our drinks. The staff was incredibly polite, working at a pace that matched the calm, slow atmosphere. For flavors, their original dark roast pairs exceptionally well with matcha, but they also offer a sweetness & mild blend, alongside a fruity option for those who prefer lighter roasts. Because space is limited and it is a highly popular spot, the best approach here is simply to sit, drink, and go.

I visited this café on a Tuesday at 2 PM, and there was no queue at all — only three other customers were inside. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, making it a great place to enjoy a quiet coffee break. The staff were incredibly friendly and had a very calm and welcoming attitude. I ordered a Café Latte made with the Dark Roast Beans, and it was really delicious. The flavor was rich and well balanced, and I really enjoyed it. The only little downside for me was the price. The Latte just felt a little too expensive. However, the great atmosphere, friendly service, and quality of the coffee still made it a pleasant experience overall.

FEB 2026 When I visited on a weekday just as they were opening there was only one customer in front so I didn't wait long to order. I ordered the Bongen Latte Rich which uses twice the amount of coffee beans. There were three types of beans with different roast levels; I chose the medium roast which had an additional cost. Also ordered the matcha ice cream monaka. The coffee was ready in five minutes and the monaka was brought out a few minutes after the coffee. The Bongen Latte Rich was definitely very rich and strong. It was a highly concentrated full body coffee; each small sip packed an intense coffee flavor which was tasty, smoothed out with the natural sweetness of the milk. The matcha ice cream monaka was also pretty decent; thin and crispy with a mildly sweet matcha ice cream that didn't taste milky. Overall enjoyed the quality Bongen Latte Rich, worth trying but not my everyday coffee especially with the high price tag. Also you can feel the warm service from the staff when ordering and also when they serve you the coffee. Note that the seats cannot be pre-occupied so that people who have ordered first can use the seats first.

TLDR - High Price, not worth the wait. Better somewhere else unless you want the vibes. When I read some of the lower-rated reviews, I thought it wouldn’t be that bad right? Since there are more positive ones. But it’s sad to say that on a Tuesday morning when they’re just opened, the queue is already moving very slowly - we queued at approx. 10.10 am with only 8 groups or so in front of us, and it took close to 30 minutes for our turn to order; it took another 12 minutes for our drinks to be served. Total waiting time approx. 45 minutes. The queue did seem to shorten after we got our drinks. For a weekday, perhaps coming 1 hour after opening time is better. I understand that they are service-first, but there’s a certain line to draw, especially if you have to order first before being seated. Next, without knowing its value, the coffee beans are really expensive. For a 200g single origin in-house light roast, they start selling from ¥3900 onwards. For that price, I expect more information than provided. At least give the exact region or farm name (not just the country), so we know if it’s worth the price. How am I going to convince myself to spend ¥13900 on a “Premium” Ethiopia Geisha Natural Process beans without knowing which farm or region it comes from? And the worst part is not knowing its roasting date. They put only the expiry date on the packaging, and personally, I think even for a late May roast (as of writing), end October for expiry is too much…. And what is “original” roasting style? For that, I decided to not order a coffee “coffee” drink, but rather a hojicha and matcha latte with espresso. But to make things worse, they CHARGE FOR SUGAR SYRUP. Literally, the cashier was asking us if we like to have sugar in our drinks as it was quite “bitter” and we said, “ok”. Little did we know that adding it will cost us ¥200 each. That’s a total of ¥400 for sugar syrup. It’s ridiculous. All that said, the hojicha and matcha latte with espresso were very decent. However, we did paid ¥2680 in total. You be the judge if this is worth the value. I’ve had very good filter coffee at Ginza that’s not even at this price. As a coffee lover, this is not it. You’re paying for the vibe and environment. The staff were polite and service was definitely on-point.

I first came here because this coffee shop kept showing up on TikTok, but the service impressed me even more. The staff kindly explained the menu in English, and I really appreciated that. I was lucky there wasn’t a long line when I visited. They accept both cash and cashless payments, and although the drinks are on the pricier side, I feel the quality and service really justify it. Just a heads up for anyone planning to visit: since you never really know when it gets crowded, it’s better to set aside a bit of extra time. The ordering process can take longer because the staff asks for your preferences, like which coffee blend you want and your sweetness level to make sure the drink matches your taste. It’s a great experience, but it can take a moment. I ordered the Matcha Espresso with the Bongen original blend and tried both the sweet and less-sweet versions, but surprisingly the sweet version was my favorite 😂 The espresso was bold, the matcha tasted high-quality. For coffee or matcha lovers, this place might be nice to try at least once 🍵☕✨
