Such a unique restaurant. They are specialized in gigantic sandwich. Each person must order a drink and food. You can take the left over home so don’t worry about finishing all on site. They got smaller sized sandwiches too. Very cute decor and fun place to go for sure.

I was very disappointed with my experience at AMERICAN. The famous oversized tamago sandwiches are delicious and definitely worth trying. Unfortunately, the customer service completely overshadowed the food. We ordered our sandwiches to go because we were traveling by train afterward and didn’t have much time. We sat quietly at the side in front of the restaurant to eat. We were not blocking the entrance or disturbing anyone. Within a few minutes, a staff member came outside and rather aggressively told us to leave. We would have completely understood if they had politely explained that eating in front of the restaurant was not allowed. Instead, we were spoken to in a very unfriendly manner, which was both surprising and disappointing. We were told to go and eat in a nearby park, but the park was in the opposite direction from the station, and we simply didn’t have enough time before our train departed. If a restaurant offers takeaway food, it should also understand that some customers—especially travelers—may want to eat it right away. In my experience traveling throughout Japan, it is generally acceptable to eat food you have just purchased somewhere near the shop, as long as you are respectful, clean up after yourself, and don’t block the way. We did exactly that. The problem wasn’t the rule itself—it was the way we were treated. A friendly explanation would have been more than enough. Instead, we left feeling unwelcome. It’s a shame because the sandwiches are genuinely good, but good food cannot make up for poor customer service. Unfortunately, this experience means I would not return or recommend this place.

Fun place to go, and you won't leave hungry! Great for a photo op too. You see all the celebrities on the wall that have been there. The pictures illustrate what you're getting. There were 5 of us and staff did their best to get us seats.

It's a different experience. The store is small, so you can sit with a stranger. The amount of bread is too much, so you can take the leftovers.

This place has been hyped up recently with their appearance on TV, but it's just a gimmick. I tried the takeout egg salad and hamburger sandwiches, and it was regrettable at best. The sandwiches are massive, but are 80% white, mushy bread. The fillings aren't that good either, making the food just a brick of mediocre mush you have to swallow down while making a severe mess. They don't even have pastrami anymore, which was a disappointment. Yes, I got to satisfy my curiosity about this place, but I honestly wish I hadn't eaten this food. I don't recommend this place unless you really really like playdough white bread.
