Takenoya refers to one of two very different restaurants depending on which location you mean: · Takenoya (Chofu City – Eel Specialty Restaurant): Founded in 1941 (Showa 16), this long-established restaurant specializes in domestically sourced eel grilled over binchō-tan charcoal, paired with a secret sauce passed down through generations. Housed in a traditional Japanese-style building with private rooms and banquet halls, it's ideal for business dinners or family gatherings. Located a 3-minute walk from Keiō Tamagawa Station, dinner courses start around ¥6,000–¥8,000 per person. · Takenoya (Katsushika Ward – Soba Noodle Shop): A casual soba and udon noodle spot near Kanamachi Station. With 24 seats, it has a down-to-earth, family-friendly atmosphere.

View on GoogleWe made a reservation before visiting. We enjoyed a leisurely meal in a spacious Japanese-style room of about 10 tatami mats. I had the upper-grade 鰻重, and my husband had the premium grade with a large serving of rice. We added a starter, うまき, and vinegared mozuku as a palate cleanser. I ordered the starter thinking the eel would take some time to grill, but it was served quickly, so I wondered if it had been prepared in advance. The eel is relatively small and not thick-fleshed. It has a light flavor, so I think older people would find it easy to eat. There are various courses, and it seems suitable for dining together over drinks. Lunch also included tempura and sashimi set meals besides eel, so I think it would be fine even if someone doesn't like eel. I think it's a good choice for those who like delicately flavored eel.
View on GoogleThe atmosphere of the restaurant is absolutely wonderful. You can enjoy delicious eel in a room reminiscent of a nostalgic old ryokan. Honestly, I found myself wishing I'd ordered some alcohol and stayed longer to enjoy the room's atmosphere. I ordered the upper-grade 鰻重 and grilled eel liver. The grilled liver was especially delicious. Its characteristic bitterness and the way it was grilled were outstanding. The 鰻重 might be a little small. I recommend getting extra rice. The staff's service was perfect and left me feeling good.
