Although サンマロー near the east exit of Chofu Station is local to me, somehow I'd never had the chance to go in. After a recommendation, I finally visited this time. It has the calm exterior of an old-fashioned coffee shop, and a relaxed atmosphere greets you the moment you open the door. Whenever I visit a coffee shop, I get an irresistible craving for ナポリタン, but this time I ordered a good-value set that included beer. The piping-hot ナポリタン had a nostalgic flavor and went perfectly with the beer. Since coffee-shop Western dishes are simple, careful cooking really shows in the taste, and every plate here delivers a solid sense of satisfaction. The interior was quiet and comfortable, a space where you could relax and lose track of time. The staff's service was pleasant too, making it perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal or conversation. There are still lots of menu items I'm curious about, and I've heard they're all delicious, so I have even more to look forward to next time. This place reminded me that such a lovely coffee shop exists right in my own neighborhood. I'd like to visit again to leisurely enjoy ナポリタン and beer.

Exit through the east ticket gate of Chofu Station on the Keio Line and head left, then turn right once you reach the street. It's a short distance from there. There is a step of about 10cm at the boundary with the street, so unfortunately it is not barrier-free. (I think wheelchair users could enter with assistance.) I had the 「カツカレーライス」 (1,298円) from the lunch menu. Lunch items come with salad and soup. For an extra 220円, you can also have coffee, tea, or beer. サン・マロ apparently holds a meister certification for Toraja beans, said to be rare coffee beans grown in Indonesia's highlands, so I'd definitely like to try the coffee next time. The curry sauce is thick and highly viscous, sprinkled with fresh parsley, and the rice is topped with raisins and a boiled egg cut in half. The salad also contains fresh parsley, stems and all, and I enjoyed its bitterness for the first time in a while. The curry isn't particularly spicy and has a level of heat that anyone could comfortably enjoy. The cutlet was completely covered in sauce, so the coating had no crispness. The coating itself was firmly bound together and so hard it had to be cut with a spoon, even tougher than the pork, which was more than 1cm thick. Partly because of the hard coating, it's a substantial plate that takes some eating. (※This is purely my personal opinion.)

I took a break at 喫茶サンマロー, located in a back alley by the east exit, the less-used ticket gate of Chofu Station on the Keio Line. I was looking for somewhere to charge my phone and found it by searching online for cafés with power outlets. After entering, I sat at the back on the left. At first I was considering an iced or hot single-origin coffee, but then I spotted 昭和のクリームソーダ for 620円, so I decided to order that. I also found an AC outlet for charging, and after checking that I could use it, I started charging my phone. It arrived in just under 10 minutes. Including its color, it was just like the cream soda I used to have in the top-floor restaurants of department stores during the Showa era. As I watched, the ice cream started melting and the soda foam increased. Thinking this wasn't good, I ate the ice cream part first and then enjoyed the rest as melon soda. It was a nice café where I could spend time peacefully without feeling rushed.

A hidden gem! It depends on when you visit, but if it isn't crowded, you can take your time and relax. The hot coffee is delicious too!

Delicious coffee The lemon pie is cute and delicious I'd recommend it when you want a blended coffee rather than Starbucks. I thought it looked a little intimidating to enter because you can't see inside from outside, but there was something written suggesting the smoking booth was a separate room, so I went in. The interior feels clean and smells wonderfully of coffee!
