The food is lightly seasoned, which makes me feel they're considering our health. All the small vegetable side dishes at lunch are delicious. Free large rice portions are welcome too. The only downside is the loud conversations of people who seem to be regulars?

【Simple, yet makes you want to eat it again】 On my way home after stopping at Boulangerie Sunouchi on 品川通り for the first time in a while, I noticed a small café-like place right next door. Somehow drawn in, I found three lunch choices: daily meat and fish dishes, plus what seemed to be a regular hamburg steak. An older lady runs the place alone. Drawn to “Basque-style,” I chose the meat dish. ◆ バスク風チキンのトマト煮 1,200円 The chicken was so tender it fell apart at the touch of my chopsticks. Behind the gentle acidity of the tomatoes, a fleeting “subtle spiciness” felt pleasant and quietly addictive. Is this what Basque-style means? This lady might be someone to reckon with. The sides were plentiful too. Taro gratin, simmered daikon, curry croquette, potato potage. All unpretentious, carefully made comfort food. They complemented the main while making the whole plate much more satisfying. Properly delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere. Finding a place like this makes the scenery along 品川通り feel a little more familiar. Perhaps this is a little gem. A place I'd like to casually drop into again.

I visited on Saturday morning, impressed that this place still offers a one-coin breakfast these days. Arriving at 10:56, I asked, “Can I still get breakfast?” and received a cheerful “Of course!” The lady was working alone that day. Her triangular headscarf gave a nice, clean impression. There was already 1 group of customers. From the main street the interior looks dark, but inside, sunlight streams through large east-facing windows, creating a bright, refreshing atmosphere. Seating is limited: 2-person tables ×3 and a 4-person table ×1. The counter isn't in use, so effectively only 4 groups can fit… It doesn't seem like somewhere to linger. There are no menus on the tables; the lady calls out from the kitchen to each arriving customer and talks them through it. At lunch, for example: Lady: “Today's meat dishes are thinly sliced pork nanban with tartar sauce and chicken stewed with tomatoes; the fish dishes are sautéed swordfish and salmon meunière with walnut sauce.” Customer: “Hmm, pork please!” Something like that. Naturally, there are no order slips or anything lol. The one-coin breakfast has 4 choices. I ordered the standard A set: salad, bacon, a fried egg, toast+a drink. Soon came the lovely sound of bacon and eggs sizzling in a pan. The A set normally includes half a slice of toast, but since I wanted it as lunch, I paid +50円 for 1 whole slice. It was thick-cut, from a loaf sliced into 4, soaked with butter, delicious and filling. I ended up quietly finishing half with just butter, so adding that extra half for the sides and jam was the right choice(^_^;) The sesame-dressed salad was small but had plenty of variety: lettuce, pea shoots, purple cabbage, and cucumber, all crisp. Drinks are coffee or tea. The tea arrives with the bag still floating in the cup, and you can help yourself to hot water from the dispenser inside for as many cups as you like, haha. I noticed afterward that decaf coffee apparently was available for +50円 too. An old man with a loud voice happened to be making endless speeches that day, which was noisy, but once he left the atmosphere was relaxed. There were 3 groups after me, all middle-aged to elderly women dining alone. They all seemed to be regulars. Clearly a place loved by the neighborhood. Thank you for the meal.
