I visited for a birthday dinner and had reserved a private room in advance since we were a group and wanted to avoid disturbing other guests if we became loud. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice. Most of the staff were polite and professional. However, unfortunately, one staff member who served our table gave us a very disappointing experience. He was not attentive, often did not listen carefully to our orders, and repeatedly left the private room door open whenever he left, forcing us to stand up and close it ourselves each time. We also asked the front reception if someone could help take a group photo, and they kindly agreed, but this particular staff member was quite rude during the interaction. We visited as a group for a birthday dinner and spent a considerable amount of money and time at the restaurant expecting a memorable experience. Unfortunately, because of the poor service from this particular staff member, the experience became very disappointing. Especially for a birthday occasion, we truly regret choosing this place because of how uncomfortable the experience became. We are not complaining about the entire staff or restaurant, as overall the place itself was good, but the service from this individual was honestly one of the worst experiences we have had in Japan. We hope the restaurant can improve this in the future.

I came here for my birthday week dining out at different restaurants for the week. I really wanted to like this restaurant, it looks great and the menu sounded delicious. They did a great job with the interior, very French and New York. But as soon as we were sat, we were tended by this unfriendly waitress. She was rushing and seemed very impolite. Throughout the whole service, she just didn’t have patience and wanted to get us out of the place. I wasn’t even finished with my drink and she already took it away without asking. So this was a big minus. The food - for a place that was featured in Michelin guide - was subpar. The chicharron was delicious, the signature spicy friend chicken was bland and spiceless and hard as bricks. The sautéed mushrooms were so bitter and salty. The recommended duck confit was mediocre and potatoes were hard. At this point we wanted to order steak or more food but was just put off by the lack of taste and awful aftertaste… my friend decided to order the creme caramel pudding - he said it was bitter. I really wanted to like this place. But with the bad service, lackluster food and seeing everyone doing the course dinner and their food looked even worse… I think this kitchen needs to have a meeting and taste their own food and presentation. Also need to give attitude adjustment to that waitress but the other staff were friendly and nice.

The Upper is recommended by Michelin and it deserves at least 2 stars. The atmosphere on top of the building was very tranquil, music was set at the perfect level that you could hear it but still have a conversation with those across the table without staining. Then the flavor of all the foods we tried was nothing less than awesome!!! I magnificent experience that I highly recommend.

We visited this restaurant for my friend’s birthday dinner. The food was good, and most of the staff members were polite and welcoming, which we truly appreciated. We had reserved a private room specifically so that our celebration would not disturb other customers. Since it was a birthday gathering, we wanted to celebrate comfortably and respectfully in a separate space. However, the staff member serving our table seemed visibly unhappy with our presence from the beginning, and his attitude throughout the service came across as quite rude and unwelcoming, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable for our group. We had brought a birthday cake with us for the celebration. However, the staff suddenly informed us that we were not allowed to cut the cake or blow candles inside the restaurant, which we were not aware of beforehand. We completely understand and respect the restaurant’s policy regarding outside cakes. We also decided to take some photos in the reception area because the atmosphere and vibe there were really nice. Before taking photos, we asked the reception staff for permission, and they kindly told us it was okay. However, later, The staff member serving our table told our friends in the private room to stop us from taking photos . Since we had already received permission at the reception, the mixed communication was disappointing and unfortunately affected the mood of the celebration. It was especially disappointing because we visited as a group for a special birthday celebration, and unfortunately the overall experience did not feel worth the amount we spent. The food and atmosphere were nice overall, but I hope the restaurant can improve the hospitality and communication among certain staff members in the future.

I've been to this restaurant about 20 times. Every time I go with a man, I'm surprised by the difference in the size of the meat portions. It's the same price, though. I cannot recommend this restaurant.
