Walking around 神田 just after 11, I discovered a restaurant perfectly described by the words “long-established!” It opened in Showa 15 and exudes a Showa-era atmosphere. The crisp texture goes without saying, and I loved how it was light yet rich, with a clean finish. Apparently they use oil extracted from the seeds of the kaya, a tall evergreen tree. At first bite, my reaction was “hmm?” because it didn't feel as much like tendon as I'd expected. The strange sensation of it turning delicious as I kept eating made me so happy I wanted to do a little dance. The deliciousness doesn't end with the tendon. The miso soup is nameko mushroom soup with blended miso… mmm, delicious! The finishing touch is the rice-bran-pickled turnip and cucumber. Asking later, I learned the secret pickling method was passed down from their grandmother. The perfect saltiness and depth came from just the right pickling, and I was so delighted I couldn't help jumping for joy. At 1250円 including tax, you can call this excellent value. A food reviewer once said you can tell a truly good restaurant by eating its cheapest dish. If you go to 神田, this is certainly a place you should stop by.
View on GoogleYou can enjoy Edomae-style tendon. Beyond the taste of the tendon itself, you can experience the craftsmanship during the frying. You can sense the restaurant's determination to serve delicious food. Kaya seed oil gives a distinctive texture, so if you believe tempura isn't tempura without the aroma of sesame oil, you'd probably be better off not going.
View on GoogleThe thin batter and light oil make it wonderfully easy to eat. Thanks to that, even though the tendon was generously portioned, I could finish it without feeling weighed down. The restaurant's atmosphere was nice, and the miso soup and tea they served were delicious too.
View on GoogleLight, refined, and delicious. As I was leaving, I happened to notice kaya seeds on a table with a sign saying, “Our tempura is fried in oil pressed from these seeds.” I'll have to go again.
View on GoogleThe taste is okay, but the attitude isn't very nice❗They're kind to regulars, but cold toward first-time customers. When I was the first to arrive in the evening, they said customers reserved for 8 would be coming after 7, so hurry up and order your main dish and leave before then❗It may be long-established, but with this treatment😵
