This restaurant provides dandan noodles without soup. You can choose from 5 spicy levels, from level 0 to 4. I tried "Dandan rice", which is recommended by the restaurant, that you can make by putting rice into the noodle bowl after finishing the noodles. This tastes nice, with adding as much vinegar, chili and sansho (Japanese pepper) as you like.
View on GoogleQuick with fantastic taste. 1-2 spice level is pretty spicy.
View on GoogleGreat spot for a noodle lunch - Masumi is super helpful for confused tourists like us, would recommend for anyone visiting the book stores looking for a local bowl
View on GoogleAuthentic soupless tantanmen from Hiroshima, with the aroma of Sichuan pepper rushing through your nose I finally got to visit this Hiroshima-born soupless tantanmen shop. The moment the bowl arrived, the aroma of Sichuan pepper gently wafted up, whetting my appetite. After mixing it thoroughly and taking a bite, the first thing you notice is the tingly, peppery kick of sansho. The heat builds slowly afterward, and the sharpness of the chili oil and the mellow richness of the sesame paste form layers, for a more complex flavor than I expected. The custom-made medium-thin noodles cling well to the sauce and are easy to slurp, ◎. The noodle portion is just right too, and I finished it in no time. The interior has a calm atmosphere, and I also liked that it's a space where you can savor your bowl quietly. If you can't handle spice, apparently you can choose from level 0, so I think it's a place I can recommend to a wide range of people. Thank you for the meal.
View on GoogleA highly polished soupless tantanmen you can enjoy with confidence, even on your first visit.” A simple, counter-only interior, and water is self-serve. No frills, but that makes it a calm space where you can focus on the tantanmen, and the quiet atmosphere was actually pleasant. At each seat, there's sauce for the finishing rice, vinegar, and King-ken's original sansho, so you can enjoy changing up the flavor. The instructions on how to eat it are also easy to understand, so even first-timers can enjoy it the best way without getting confused, which I liked. This time I added cilantro, which the ticket machine listed as recommended. It paired even better than I imagined, adding freshness to the tingly heat and the numbing sansho, so I enjoyed it to the very end without getting bored. As you'd expect from a soupless tantanmen specialty shop, every bowl is highly polished. Recommended for anyone who wants to focus on the flavor in a simple space.
