Slight spicy dark, med thickness curry roux. I like this flavor better than some of the more famous shops in the neighborhood like Manten and Nankai. Super fast service.
View on GoogleThe food comes quickly and the place is famous in the area among the salarymen. The price is good for what you get, but I missed depth in the flavor of the curry. It tasted strong and a bit spicy, but its not a flavor I would want to come back to often. The katsu on the curry does not have the crispy panko crust and doesn't add much to the curry. Perhaps the other flavours would have been a better choice. I did love the atmosphere of the store with the music, and it's a perfectly servicable option for lunch.
View on GoogleSendai is the name of a city in Japan which is famous for the beef tongue. So you can of course have beef tongue curry as well as other types of curry. Pork curry and chicken curry are cheap, costing only 500 yen. For additional 50 yen you can get an extra amount of rice, and for 100 yen even more. And normally the dishes are quickly served. Most of the seats are on the counter, so you shouldn't expect to get seats next to each other at crowded lunch time if you go together with someone.
View on GoogleDo you love Japanese curry? Do you also love the music of John Philip Sousa? If you answered, "heck, yeah!" to both of those questions, Sendai is for you. At lunchtime, beef curry is insanely good COSPA at ¥550. This seems to be the shop's default dish, time from order to spoon: about a minute or two. From personal experience, I can also recommend the tonkatsu curry and the hamburg curry. Staff is lovely and, though it's not really a place where you linger, the vibe is not as rushed as at some other curry shops I've visited. Plus, with "76 Trombones" playing in the background, you feel like you're not just eating curry—you're Accomplishing Something! Recommended, I shall return.
View on GoogleThis was a hard place to rate and I'm smack dabbed at a 3.o -3.3 but drop it a point for service. ( I mean , why else dine out ?/ I could cook half this stuff myself ) Making it a 2?2.5 ? Read the pros and cons below Since I'm jolly let's start with the pros +Proving true to its name of Sendai / they do feature their Sendai beef tongue curry. + Ironically there is a more crowded more expensive curry restaurant across the street we looked at. Didn't look all to fancy. This one was less empty +the curry restaurant was certainly a mom and pop restaurant + The price range is fair to say the least 550 for their cheaper side and I Got an oxtail / beeftail curry for 780. Ironically beef tongue was cheaper. Same roiux though +they have many other dishes though I suspect the base is the same . Taste The taste had deep onion garlic properly dark and heavy taste. Im usually a ramen person but I'm glad I chose curry , a heavy lingering flavoured curry. Mushroom slices apparent. Small bits of beef bone Meet or fat still on the bone . Succulent sweet. Rice was coarse and filling . Like an old school diner . Would go well with beer and I would have had a second helping had it not been for the main negative attribute about service that I've written . The don't have pickled shallots but they do have your red fujinzuke( red pickled radish) and that was nice. There's a plastic wine decaunter, I forgot if there were tissues or napkins . Beer was an option from lunch as well but not explicitly written Here's some cons. - my friend whose third time it was ,got his curry really quickly. , In two minutes. Mine took almost ten . Even after the people that took a seat after me . ( My friend suspects the more time you come , the faster you'll get your curry) - It's curry in the outskirts of historically curry rich jimbocho like ten minutes out - the decour could do a major upgrade - It's an only counter curry bar. So not barrier-free accessible - though they have maybe 20 or seating .. some seatings are so roughly placed it's awkward to get there , Awkward for people to pass behind you, and etc ..( I had this seat) due to a pillar .. - there were some ingredients in a plain newspaper on top of its beer server .. - The main part had to be the service of the staff ( yes I did mention it was mom and pop but they were quiet unwelcoming for being a mom and pop,) - the restaurant did it's best to make me feel unwelcome . I spoke English and Japanese and another language in the restaurant with my friend and I'm not sure about the owner/ elderly chef but he was giving me the evil eye and quietly whispering with his wife every chance they got while looking back ...I mean couldn't they even wait till I got out of the restaurant.. though I am not an intimidating person or oddly dressed circus clown ( however if you don't mind the ostracism, then feel free to eat some decent priced curry @ this overly cramped curry shop) To add - I honestly didn't mind the ( don't know why your playing ) American marching band music but after twenty minutes of dining and chatting with my friend, you come to think A) they are at war with the curry restaurant across the street B) how are these mom/pop curry restaurant proprietors not insane after even a few hours of this I'm really torn to go to this vaguely tasty but semi disrespectful curry store..
