A hole in the wall gem with the best curry I have ever had....if in Tokyo and you want curry, you come here. The process is that you stand in line. They have counter style seating for about 15 people. They mostly serve the office crowd in the area. They know limited English to communicate the order you want. They make around 7 different curry options - same curry, different meats. Once seated, you tell them which curry. Then you watch them assemble the food because the curry is heating in a huge pot while the meat is being deep fried next to it. You eat, you pay, you leave. It is a focused endeavor. We got the Katsu curry. You can't share, so we got one plate each. They give you a spice powder on the table. I added it because I can always eat more spice but the curry didn't need it. They don't allow you to video their process but you can take pictures of your food. The portions are HUGE and there are jumbo options too. The curry is thick, flavorful and enough to soak through the large amount of rice. The Katsu was perfect. You pay in cash only. While we stood in line for about 20 mins, I would have waited longer for this curry. Might be one of the best things I have eaten in my life!

What a hole in the wall restaurant! Very good price and portion. A local shop that most japanese workers go-to for a meal. Big portion rice smothered with curry all over plus a crispy pork tonkatsu (optional). I was surprised what the small cup was but it was actually coffee. I never thought coffee could go so well with curry rice 🍛. This is one definitely a must try.

I had the katsu Ramen and it was amazing. I sat down and my food was ready in 20 seconds after ordering it. Curry is super flavourful and the tonkatsu pork is delicious. Great portion size and very cheap. Would highly reccomend. I was the only tourist there, and the rest were all locals on thier lunch break so I knew it had to be good before even going in and it turned out even better than expected.

This is one of the local shops in Tokyo you must try. It’s like a hidden gem, not so hidden anymore. The atmosphere is energetic, the server is amazing. About the food, it’s very delicious. I ordered Katsudon with curry on top and it was so good. The curry blend with the rice and the meat to create such a combo. I also recommend put on the red beet on top (it’s on the table, big box of it, it’s a secret extra ingredients), they don’t pink ginger like other shops (i like it the specialness). People usually have a quick lunch or dinner and the shop only have counter table because it’s small. It’s cheaper and so delicious. Definitely give it another try.

Probably the best Japanese curry in Tokyo. Highly recommended. This little shop down a hidden Jinbocho alleyway changed my taste buds forever. Manten Curry, meaning “full marks” or “perfect score” in Japanese, lives up to its name as one of the best places in Tokyo for curry. The rankings and reviews speak for themselves (just turn on that translator first). Which makes me wonder why this place is still a big secret in the restaurant scene. Take a seat around the counter surrounding the kitchen and when the cook asks, just shout out the order. The cooks may not know much English, but they are extremely kind and might even try to strike up a conversation. While waiting for your food, feel free to sip on the water and coffee in front of you, and watch as your dish is being prepared. Seven minutes later, Enjoy! One of the reasons why I love this spot is because of it’s homey atmosphere. The cooks are right there in front of you, taking orders, making food, and receiving payments. They are extremely polite in their mannerisms but casual with their language (which is extremely rare in the Japanese food service industry). The cooks are on a first name basis with regulars as well, another rarity in Japan. Whether you’re a curry connoisseur or just want to try something new, I’d strongly suggest checking out Manten Curry in Jinbocho.
