Chashu Fukumenshoyu Ramen (Hard Noodles) ¥1,600 Today, while out and about, I visited "Fukumenshoyu Satoshi" in Jimbocho for the first time. I'd known about it for quite a while, but I couldn't quite predict what kind of menu they'd have, so I was a bit intimidated and hadn't gone before. It just so happened that today was Thursday, the day they serve their signature "Fukumenshoyu Ramen." It's a stubborn-style soup, but it wasn't as salty as I'd imagined, and the overall balance was excellent. The broth really brought out the flavors of Awa-Oji chicken, beef bones, and dried ingredients – delicious! The noodles were thin and cooked firm, which was exactly my preferred texture. The chashu pork was tender and packed with umami. The ground meat floating in the soup added a great accent too. I finished every last drop.
View on GoogleAuthentic Japanese Ramen. Noodles was very fresh, it was done on the spot and the roasted pork is soft and tender. There are only 5 seats facing the master chefs, but every customer is so considerate, waiting patiently outside the restaurant. Foreigners, please queue outside the door to pay for your order and get the tickets first. Then queue on a different line along the side of the restaurant. The queue moves fast as most customers do not linger at their seats after the meal. Although we went in a group of 3 and placed order in a single ticket, we entered the restaurant separately whenever there is a seat available. Owner was kind and mindful to shift our seats so we can dine together when it was possible. I would come again if i have more time left during this trip.
View on GoogleArrived at around 10:20 AM with no queue outside, though the shop was already full—so I waited about 10 minutes before being seated, a good indication of its popularity. I ordered their ramen with all the works, opting for a shoyu-based broth. The bowl is refreshingly straightforward—no unnecessary embellishments, just a focus on the fundamentals. The broth carries a classic soy-forward aroma, with a balanced savory depth and a subtle sweetness that rounds out the profile. On the palate, it’s clean and composed, delivering that familiar, traditional flavor that never goes out of style. The noodles complement the soup well, offering a satisfying bite that ties everything together, while the toppings add just enough richness and texture without overwhelming the bowl. A no-frills, orthodox ramen done right—simple, honest, and quietly satisfying.
View on GoogleIncredible Ramen Bar in Jimbōchō. If you want good ramen you must come here. Owners have a revolving menu, usually your only choice is the special of the day so this place must be repeated. The staff were very kind and worked extra hard to accommodate my party past the language barrier. If you know any Japanese it will go a long way and the staff are very appreciative of an effort to speak their language. The atmosphere was enchanting, phenomenal music and great vibes. Thank you for having us, we’ll be back!
View on GoogleWe stumbled upon this ramen bar while in the area. If I’ve learnt anything, it’s to trust small restaurants with long queues out the door. Even though the queue was long, it was fast moving (took us about 30mins). The owners were lovely and helped tremendously with operating the ticket machine for the menu. The ramen was great, portion sizes very generous (we even asked for a smaller portion as we had a big dinner planned) and we feel very lucky to have stumbled on this place!
