The price is the same regardless of the noodle amount. It's delicious as is, but if you like, adding fish powder or tenkasu is also delicious. Also, you get one egg for free, and if you add it, it goes down even more smoothly! There aren't many seats, so be careful if you're coming with 3 or more people!!

At 「なぜ蕎麦」, I ordered the niku soba, medium size. First, the moment it's brought out, what you think is simply a reassuring "oh, this is a solid amount." Even the medium has a satisfying volume; if you're just a bit hungry, it'll easily fill you up. The soba is firm and the slurpable, smooth type. It's not too strongly flavored, so it's easy to eat, and before you know it your chopsticks keep going. The meat on top has a sweet-savory seasoning, and it goes great with the broth. Not too greasy but has real umami, and the balance with the soba is nice. The broth isn't too strong or too weak, the kind you can drink to the end. The meat's flavor seeps into it a bit, so it actually tastes better in the second half, which is a big plus. Also, the raw egg I added midway was really good. Everything instantly becomes mellower, the sweet-savoriness of the meat and the edge of the broth smooth out, and it turns into a whole different bowl. As a flavor change for the second half it's super solid, basically must-have level. Overall it's not flashy, but it's a bowl that nails "just properly tasty." Perfect for when you want a quick meal or want satisfaction without it being too heavy. Would totally come back. Next time maybe a large + raw egg from the start.

I was meeting someone at 13:15 in the afternoon, but I remembered I'd only had an early breakfast around 6:30 in the morning, and with 20 minutes until the meetup — an awkward amount of time that was sort of enough and sort of not — I found this place while frantically searching for somewhere to eat and went in. I ordered the tori soba (medium) for 990 yen. It was my first time at this location, but I'd eaten at other branches several times, and I remembered one raw egg being free, but there was something called kaeshi tamago, so I ordered that too. 150 yen. The taste was the usual: a rich dipping sauce with a strong kick of chili oil, firm soba, a heaping pile of shredded nori, and green onion and sesame — I enjoyed it. It was my first time having kaeshi tamago, and it seemed to be a seasoned egg marinated in kaeshi?, and it was delicious too. Thanks for the meal.

My favorite soba shop near Ochanomizu Station, which I visit about 4 times a month. The Ochanomizu location of 「なぜ蕎麦にラー油を入れるのか。」 has train-view seats (Chuo Line, Sobu Line, Limited Express Azusa) and hospital-view seats (Institute of Science Tokyo Hospital and Juntendo Hospital), so you can enjoy the scenery too. A nice point is that you can choose the soba size: small (200g), medium (250g), or large (350g). The style is that cooking starts the moment you get your ticket from the ticket machine, and when your number shows up on the display, you go pick it up yourself. One free raw egg (used to be unlimited?) is also a draw, and the very firm, chewy soba pairs perfectly with the aroma of the chili oil. A rare shop where you can enjoy both the view and the taste.

Pricey, average Meat amount of 100–120g is the default The 1 free raw egg is already baked into the price. The noodle portion isn't exactly filling either. I wish they'd learn from the no-nonsense approach of 富◯そば.
