1️⃣Had the 葱油鶏 set meal (chicken with scallion sauce)【980円】(August 2024) The chicken was a large boiled tenderloin with a strong, salty scallion sauce. It works well as a side dish for rice. I was happy with the mountain of cabbage. It also came with mapo tofu with Taiwanese-style flavors such as star anise, which was good. For some reason they gave me a complimentary iced coffee, and I had a pleasant time. 2️⃣Had Hainanese chicken rice【980円】(October 2024) The meat was a huge tenderloin, unlike khao man gai, and felt monotonous and a little odd. Not that it was that bad, though. Complimentary iced coffee included.

Tanmen: 780円 Is the tanmen broth close to the taste of a Japanese-style neighborhood Chinese restaurant? A decent serving of vegetables, but no meat. It comes with pickles and almond pudding, so the value for money is fairly good. The service is courteous. The restaurant has separate smoking and nonsmoking sections, but I feel like cigarette smoke drifts into the nonsmoking seats... Thank you for the meal.

Found this while looking around for a restaurant between Asakusabashi and Akihabara. The sign looked thoroughly unpromising food-wise, so I went against my instincts and approached. There was a sign out front advertising a new Hainanese chicken rice dish. It was cheap, so I thought, why not, and went in. The interior was spacious, an old-fashioned Chinese place, like Chinese Origin. The Hainanese chicken rice came with soup, dessert, and even an after-meal coffee for 750円. S-so cheap. I tried it, wondering how it would taste. Some Hainanese chicken rice dishes use grilled thigh meat and force it to work, but this one had properly thick breast meat that seemed slowly cooked, moist and light. The rice seemed like basmati? It had absorbed the chicken flavor beautifully and was incredibly delicious. This was a winner. Better than what I had in Singapore. The rice was piled high, so it was filling too. There are lots of regular Chinese dishes as well, so it felt like somewhere I could visit regularly!

Everything is good, but the chicken rice is outstanding. As delicious as at Singapore's Oriental Hotel (is it still around?). I never expected to eat something this authentic in Japan. More the upscale kind than Singapore's street-side chicken rice.

I went hoping to have Hainanese chicken rice, but they had stopped serving it quite a while ago. The male staff member took orders wearing a down jacket and a hat, and really looked like a delivery worker. I thought he should at least wear an apron or something to look like a staff member. Maybe another time if I have the chance.
