神田 ポンチ軒Kanda Ponchiken
Casual space with table & counter seating, serving classic tonkatsu pork cutlets in breadcrumbs.
Ponchi-ken, as a long-established tonkatsu specialty store in Kanda, Tokyo, has been supported by many tonkatsu lovers for many years. The tonkatsu, carefully fried one by one using carefully selected domestic pork, is characterized by an exquisite balance of crispy batter and juicy, tender meat. In particular, Ponchi-ken's commitment lies in the lightness of its batter. By using special breadcrumbs and thoroughly managing the frying temperature, they achieve a lightness and texture that doesn't weigh on the stomach. In addition, Ponchi-ken also pays close attention to the oil used. They have devised it so that the finish is refreshing while still bringing out the umami of the pork. With this, you can eat it again and again...

Tonkatsu was one menu item I wanted to try in Japan. We happen to be in the area and I asked Google a spot for this and it brought us here. I knew it was good when I saw 3 locals lined up waiting and also a local behind us that brought his guest visiting Tokyo. He told us it would be worth it. He was right! So tender, tasty and not dry. The shredded cabbage with the dressing was hit the spot as well as the white rice was spot on with how rice should be, sticky but not over cooked. It all was perfect.
View on GoogleThis was a truly heavenly dining experience. Was lucky we came at a time without a line, ordered the Top Lion, Thick Cut and Original Ponchi. Flawless.
View on GoogleThe batter for the katsu here was perfection - crispy and light, which provides a wonderful texture. Gyukatsu is not bad, but I would highly recommend going for tonkatsu and adding on menchi katsu!
View on GoogleOne of the most beautiful bars i’ve been in my 3 days in Japan, all wood, soft jazz, quite vibes, and best food ever. The beef tonkatsu incredibly tender, curry was Excelent, the pork super tasty and crunchy, 10 times better than snitchzel, Argentinean milanesa and all things like this that i have in my life, congrats.
View on GoogleDiscovered this little spot during a month long stay in Tokyo and returned several times. The pork cutlet was cooked to perfection! Juicy and tender. The staff were warm and welcoming and the restaurant was charming, Cozy and relaxing. Learned about it via a Tokyo Weekender article. Depending on time there is a line sometimes but definitely worth the wait. Highly recommend.
