Super cute place, very friendly helpful staff. DELICIOUS!!! No English menu but they were happy to help us order
View on GoogleNice place to get your fill of Japanese-style chinese fast food and their signature gyozas. I tried the recommended pork gyoza and they were quite great. The gyoza here was not very juicy but had thicker skin and fillings. It was bigger than what I expected. For my main fish I ordered Mabo Don which was basically mabo tofu over rice. Basically left the place with food coma; I ate too much 😂 Great taste, big portions, and affordable. Also not crowded even at 5PM. Nice place for dinner if you're staying or visiting in the area.
View on GoogleI was happy to find the option for vegetable gyoza!
View on GoogleEnjoying long-established gyoza in Jimbocho! A filling Chinese-style lunch. I visited Kanda Gyoza-ya Honten for the first time for lunch in Jimbocho, a place I've been curious about for a while. I ordered the daily Mushuro (stir-fried egg and pork) set with a half-portion of black pork gyoza. The Mushuro features fluffy eggs, pork, onions, and plenty of wood ear mushrooms, with a mild seasoning that makes you want more rice. It feels homey yet shows the high-heat cooking skill typical of a Chinese restaurant, and the portion is generous. The set's black pork gyoza are large and impressive. The perfectly browned skin is fragrant and chewy. Inside, the filling is packed with the umami of black pork, and meat juices overflow with every bite. Even with just a half-portion, the satisfaction is high, and I felt the "Gyoza-ya" sign was well-deserved. The lunch menu is extensive, and the ability to combine gyoza with set meals is a big plus. Highly recommended if you want a solid Chinese lunch in Jimbocho. Next time, I want to try their popular Mapo Tofu or Huajiao Mapo Tofu.
View on GoogleI've been to the chain stores, but this was my first time at the main branch. All table seating. Adjacent tables are slightly staggered, and it seems the style is to fill seats one or two at a time. There are box seats in the back, and it seems there is seating on the 2nd floor too. No background music, small TV above the entrance. The grandmas working the floor speak in Chinese. ■ Black Pork Gyoza Set 990 yen Light Chinese soup. Rice can be upgraded to a large portion for free. I went with regular this time, but it was already a decent amount. If I got the large, it might be a bit too much for me. 6 large gyoza with a beautiful sear. They feel heavy when lifted with chopsticks. Thick, chewy skin. The filling is finely minced into a paste, with a fairly mild base seasoning. I ate 1/3 as is. The rest I alternated between vinegar-chili oil and ponzu-soy sauce. Despite being called "Black Pork," I didn't really feel the meaty umami. At a similar price point, I think I prefer "Gyoza no Nikutaro" which I visited the other day. Maybe I'll try a stir-fry or a Chinese rice bowl next time.
