JIN Malatang
Limited to 50 servings a day—we close once we sell out! Malatang tastes very different from shop to shop. At our shop, we carefully selected only the ingredients that tasted good in malatang out of dozens of options, and we've turned the very bowl the owner made for personal use into a menu item as is, so we operate with a high cost-of-ingredients ratio. To maintain this ratio, there was no option other than running the shop single-handedly! As a result, service is on the slow side, but we make each bowl carefully and with all our heart, so please wait with a warm heart. Our product rajan is completely homemade using our own method, with no salt, sugar, or additives at all, so if you like, please buy some and try using it in various dishes at home—salt-based stir-fries…

Small shop. Owner speaks pretty good chinese/english. No wait as of 24 Apr 2026, came here at 5:30pm/1730. Inexpensive price, better than most shops in the Akiba section; ranges from ¥1000-1500 for main item. You have to order via kiosk. Has two soup types (white/malatang) where you pick 1-4 levels of spice and each box is a portion sizing, in which, the kiosk categorizes options quite poorly imo. Unique specialty shop only for a quick snack that I only will be trying once. Overall, not bad, nice lowkey shop for the area/price. (Are you supposed to use vermicelli in mala?)
View on GoogleEasy to order kiosk station in different languages, delicious spicy mala noodle soup, and a clean restaurant. Perfect experience through and through! Ordered the medium bowl in their spiciest (level 4) and left feeling full and my spicy craving satiated. Also beware - level 4 is pretty spicy! I can handle level 8/9 at Thai and Indian restaurants and would consider level 4 here to be equivalent to a 7/10 spice. UPDATE (Dec 4, 2024) Had to go again one last time before heading back to the states but it was absolutely delicious just as last time. The broth is not similar to the malatang you may have at some other restaurants using beef bone broth. JIN’s mala broth is a refreshing, clear, spicy broth that hits you in the back of your throat. It’s also not oily like some mala hot pots I’ve had - it’s just straight up spiciness. It tastes very similar to the Chongqing hot pot broths I’ve had without all the oiliness. If you’re looking for a refreshing kind of mala broth, I highly recommend JIN!
View on GoogleOnly seats a few people and kiosk only takes cash, but the food was absolutely delicious. I got the spiciest soup and it was actually really spicy - the ingredients were fresh and the broth was highly addictive! I definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try and I will be back the next time I'm in Japan
View on GoogleWe were really hungry after our shopping and nothing could beat the steaming hot meal we had at JIN Malatang. We chose spice level 2... And it's was just perfect with aromatic Sichuan peppers tingling our mouths. The three of us had 2 rice portions and one big hot pot. Don't miss this one! One tiny place with stellar food.
