A coffee shop near Kanda Square. The interior feels more suited to the term coffee shop than café or traditional kissaten. You have to turn into a small side street, so it is rather hard to find. Even people familiar with this area might surprisingly not know about it. I visited slightly outside lunchtime, but they happily served me lunch. Overall, many items on the menu are reasonably priced, so it feels like good value. The food had a home-cooked flavor and was delicious. The owner seems to run the place alone, and together with the music playing inside, you can enjoy an atmosphere like a coffee shop in an old movie. It seems like a nice place to enjoy a coffee as a grown-up hideaway when you are feeling a little tired.

Judging by the sign, it was established in 1948, so it seems to be quite a long-established coffee shop. As soon as I entered, I certainly noticed that distinctive smell of a Showa-era building. But there is also some fairly new audio equipment and a TV. I wonder if they use those. The toilet also has a warm-water bidet seat and a hand dryer. Despite it being daytime on a weekend, there wasn't a damn customer. Just one doddering old man who looked like a regular came in partway through. The place was being run single-handedly by a gentle elderly owner. Hearing him talking loudly to himself while working was a little scary, but his service was kind. The food menu (lunch) is quite distinctive. Gyudon, roast beef don…… There also seemed to be coffee-shop staples like omurice and spaghetti. Everything comes with a drink, miso soup, and pickles for under 1000円, which is an incredible bargain these days. I tried ordering the roast beef don with a drink set (iced coffee), but hearing the microwave go off several times after ordering made me laugh. People have even written here wondering if it's frozen food, and the prices are cheap, after all. But judging by the uneven shapes of the slices and their color, the roast beef is probably homemade. Incidentally, perhaps because it was microwaved, it had lost quite a bit of its redness and ended up looking more like ordinary cooked beef. My first thought when the roast beef don arrived was, I don't need this much mayonnaise! If they were going to pile on this much mayonnaise, I wish they had added just as much lettuce. You end up eating mayonnaise-flavored roast beef……. And there is a huge amount of rice. I think it was about 2 heaping rice bowls' worth. I tend to eat a lot, so I finished it, but considering average stomach capacity, it might be tough for women. The rice tastes like it has a light drizzle of soy sauce. With so much mayonnaise too, it is excessive on the salt, so I think plain white rice would be fine……. As for the taste, well, putting the mayonnaise aside, it's okay. Just okay. It might suit young men or manual workers who want a really substantial meal. The iced coffee comes in a slightly small glass. And this coffee also had a strong, peculiar acidity, and I don't know…… I can't quite call it bad, but what is it…… that sort of taste. And this may be what bothers some people most, but their awareness of hygiene seems a little lacking……. The alcohol sanitizer at the entrance and the soap in the toilet were practically empty and hadn't been properly refilled. The table was also somehow sticky……. And I could hear the owner himself slurping something in the kitchen. I think eating and drinking as needed during work is fine, but combined with the other things, it bothered me a little. Incidentally, the owner wasn't wearing a mask. That's roughly how it was. At least there was alcohol gel, but the practically empty liquid soap in the toilet, the amount of mayonnaise, and the sticky table bothered me, so I probably won't go again…… although I am curious to try the omurice and such. Oh, payment is probably cash only. Please keep that in mind.

I had the roast beef don from the lunch menu. A very generous portion for 680円. The bowl was filled with plenty of rice and plenty of relatively thick-cut roast beef. It comes with miso soup and pickles. Coffee after the meal is 200円. Since this is a coffee shop, it seems like the real thing. I didn't have any this time. The interior is quiet and relaxing. No smoking. Payment seems to be cash only.

It is run by 2 middle-aged men, but the one taking orders and serving food has an absolutely terrible attitude. He inexplicably speaks to customers far too casually and serves food without a word. It was irritating the whole time, and he was talking over the prepared food, which was disgusting. The container for the water they served was dirty too, so I didn't drink it. I will never go a 2nd time.

This place seemed to have hygiene issues. It may be a long-established coffee shop, but I wish they wouldn't leave signs of its age (dirt) around the base of the cup handles too. I went in after seeing the standing sign for roast beef don. Personally, I would prefer onion dressing to mayonnaise. 870円 with the coffee set.
