Best curry for the price. Fast service.
View on GoogleProbably the most homely meal I had the whole time I was in Japan, not to mention quick and delicious, if you’re craving that home cooked meal feeling then he’s the guy to go to.
View on GoogleI visited again after 10 years. Could this be the only? surviving ボルツ chain location in Tokyo❗ According to the owner, it has been open for over 40 years, and the menu, curry, and tableware have not changed at all‼️ For me too, ボルツ is the taste of my youth❣️ Indeed, I often visited the 池袋 branch 40 years ago. What I often ate then was the tuna, corn, and tomato curry at 3 times the heat. Tuna and corn had been removed from the menu here, but clams and tomatoes were still hanging on❗ Even 4 times the heat was pleasantly spicy. The curry is thinner than CoCo壱, but spicy and delicious‼️ That old flavor does not feel dated at all. Condiments included fukujinzuke, onions, and something like daikon achar. Long before CoCo壱 came to Tokyo, ボルツ was a popular curry chain, and wasn’t it Japan’s first curry chain❓(founded in 1973) The system of choosing your spice level originated here too‼️ I was moved that this place still steadfastly preserves its flavor and quality. Hats off to the owner too❗
View on GoogleBeef and tomato ¥900 3 times hot +¥50 I was out for work and short on time, so I went into this place right in front of me. It simply wasn’t good. Just thin curry soup with stewed beef and tomatoes added. The menu described 3 times the heat as 「about as spicy as Tabasco」, but it was so underwhelming I thought, you must be kidding? Everyone has their own tastes, I suppose, but does anyone find this delicious… I won’t be returning.
View on GoogleI chose the chicken and tomato curry with the hot spice level. It was pleasantly spicy. It had a deliciousness that somehow made me want to keep eating more rice. The menu says they can make it up to 30 times as spicy, but I didn’t have the courage to try. A customer who happened to arrive at the same time, apparently on their first visit, finished the 30-times level and then asked the staff if they could make it even hotter. The answer was that 30 times is the MAX.
