We serve our customers only what we ourselves think tastes good. The name “ボーイズカレー” comes from the famous words of Dr. Clark, the forefather of Japanese curry: “Boys, be ambitious (Boys, have great aspirations).” Our curry is a nostalgic, thick Japanese curry made from wheat flour. This flour-based method is quite difficult, and it took us more than 30 years to arrive at our current flavor. Avoiding a floury smell, bringing out both the distinctive thick texture and savory flavor, and balancing vegetables whose flavors vary completely depending on the day or season—it is extremely difficult to get all of these just right. Another characteristic is the portion size. We call it “a meal fit for a sumo wrestler,” but…

In “神保町,” a historic neighborhood also known for its fiercely competitive curry scene, “ボーイズカレー” has continued satisfying food lovers since its founding in 1982. Despite its convenient location just a short walk from Jimbocho Station, stepping inside reveals a space that feels both nostalgic and exceptionally clean, making you forget the bustle of the city. The interior centers on a white-themed L-shaped counter, with an open layout that makes solo diners feel comfortable. From the kitchen directly in front come the sounds of skillful cooking and appetizing aromas, making even the wait for your food feel like a luxurious moment. This time, I enjoyed the restaurant's signature dish, a specialty that has captivated many fans. ■Shogayaki with curry The moment it arrived, its overwhelming portion size and beautiful presentation caught my eye. A large plate generously filled with shogayaki, a mountain of shredded cabbage, and curry sauce in a silver sauce pot (gravy boat). Rice and soup are included too, creating a lavish spread that truly evokes a “children's lunch set for adults.” First, a bite of the main dish, shogayaki. The pork has a pronounced meaty flavor and is cooked to surprising tenderness. The sauce delivers a clear ginger kick, harmonizing exquisitely with the sweetness of onion and the savory aroma of soy sauce. This fairly bold seasoning pairs remarkably well with the fluffy white rice, and I can feel my appetite growing with each bite. The shredded cabbage underneath the shogayaki also plays an important role. Its pleasant crunch not only refreshes the palate after the fatty meat, but the cabbage itself, soaked in shogayaki sauce, becomes a delicacy in its own right. The accompanying Napolitan is another thoughtful touch. The ketchup's moderate acidity adds a nostalgic accent to the overall flavor. And what could be called the true essence of this dish is the curry served separately. The curry at ボーイズカレー has a deep, glossy blackish-brown color that immediately shows it has been slowly simmered for a long time. The first mouthful brings a profound richness and sweetness, as though vegetables and fruit have melted into it, immediately followed by a fairly strong spicy kick. The set's soup is a clear, golden consommé-style broth. Its clean flavor, free of distracting notes, suggests careful skimming; sipped between bites of the rich main dish, it gently refreshes the palate. The spoon, fork, and knife neatly arranged on a paper napkin may also be evidence of their respect for Japan's good old yoshoku dining culture. There is a unique charm here that makes me want to stop by whenever I visit Jimbocho. You can recharge in the lively lunchtime atmosphere, or enjoy a quiet meal at dusk to round off your day. One bite should convince anyone why this place has been loved here for more than 40 years. I sincerely hope they continue preserving this same flavor in this same place, unchanged.

A long-established curry shop founded in 1983. The seating is a コ-shaped counter, and despite the name ボーイズ, the place is full of office workers. Although it's a curry shop, ginger pork is the most popular menu item. I ordered the set with ginger pork and curry. Soup is also included in the set. The curry is thick and rich. The heat that develops afterward is just right. It's somewhere between medium and hot on the usual curry spice scale. The ginger pork consists of 2 slices of pork loin. Very delicious. It's thoroughly cooked while retaining its juiciness, so even the fat doesn't feel heavy. Just the right doneness. The Napolitan on the side is very simple. It's only lightly stir-fried, which might divide opinions. The rice is cooked with a relatively high water ratio. The old-fashioned atmosphere was lovely too, making for an enjoyable solo lunch. Thanks for the meal! ▽--------------------------▽ ○Name: ボーイズカレー ○Tabelog rating 3.54(as of 2025/10/12) ○5-minute walk from 神保町 Station ○Budget ¥2,000/1 person ○東京都千代田区神田神保町2-4 ○Payment methods: cash, PayPay ○Hours 11:00〜15:00 ※Closed: Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays △--------------------------△ 【Reservations】 Not accepted 【Recommended occasions】 Solo dining 【Crowds】 About 7 out of 10 seats occupied at 11:50 on a weekday Thursday 【Order】 ◆Ginger pork with curry ¥1,300

神保町 meat dinner Came here after hearing that the ginger pork was delicious Ginger pork with curry ¥1,300 Arrived in about 10 minutes The ginger pork has quite strong seasoning Thinly sliced but very tender The curry isn't spicy and has a distinctive taste Personally, I think I prefer the ginger pork to the curry lol Seating is only at a large コ-shaped counter Both the interior and exterior have an old-fashioned, retro feel At 14:00 on a weekday, about 3 out of 10 seats were occupied

If you go here, don't order the curry‼️ Order the ginger pork^_^ Ginger pork~~~It comes on a round white plate with Napolitan and shredded cabbage on the side. The meat is thinly sliced pork loin, and there don't seem to be any onions. There's plenty of sauce, with the meat practically submerged in it. It's slightly browned, and looking at the surface, I could see lots of grated ginger, which convinced me this would be promising. Rice is served on a plate, along with consommé soup. I was happy that they brought out a knife and fork. When you try eating this thinly sliced meat with chopsticks, the juices tend to splash onto your clothes when you bite through it. Chopsticks are also provided on the table. I cut 1 slice of loin in half with the knife and tried it. The seasoning is fairly strong, with plenty of ginger and a slight aroma of garlic too. The meat is cooked over fairly strong heat, just how I like it. Above all, this sauce is delicious! The rice disappears fast. I felt like saying, I'm going to eat every bit of this shredded cabbage with this sauce too! When ginger, garlic, and soy sauce come together, rice gets utterly demolished, doesn't it? The Napolitan side is a slightly generous portion, and they use tomato sauce rather than ketchup. It has a slippery, slurpable texture. Of course, I generously coated the shredded cabbage in this sauce too. Give it a try; you'll want seconds of cabbage(^^)

【Hamburg steak with curry】 Visited around 12:15 on a weekday. All the popular places had lines, but you can see inside this place from outside, and about half the seats were empty, so I went in. Seating is only at a コ-shaped counter, with about 15 seats. I ordered the “Hamburg steak with curry (1,200円)” (order verbally and pay after eating). On the counter are red fukujinzuke pickles, green shiso seeds, salt, pepper, and sauce. The food arrived about 1 minute after ordering, which was surprisingly fast. Much appreciated. ■Soup: A light consommé soup, very much to my personal taste. ■Hamburg steak: Tender and juicy. An exemplary hamburg steak. The sauce isn't demi-glace but something slightly translucent (soy sauce-based?), and it really goes well with rice. I don't think anyone would dislike this hamburg steak. The vegetable sides are shredded cabbage and lettuce, without dressing. I ate them as they were with the hamburg steak. Maybe I could have added the sauce on the counter. The Napolitan side isn't the sticky type often found at coffee shops, but is slightly dry; still, it's tasty in its own way. ■Curry: A little thick. The first bite briefly reminded me of school-lunch curry, but actually, perhaps because they use a lot of pepper, the sharp spiciness stands out. ■Rice: Not glossy, but fluffy and served at the right temperature. Just the right stickiness too, pairing well with the curry and hamburg steak. Although the interior looks a little worn, the seasoning is very much to my taste. The extremely fast service is another attraction. One thing that bothered me was the owner putting dishes into the sink with loud clattering sounds while clearing them. I don't think there was any ill intent, but it startled me a little. However, the person who seemed to be his wife? provided cheerful service and left a good impression. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.
