A warm, old-fashioned place. Pleasant service. A relaxing atmosphere. The proprietress's thoughtfulness and the exchanges between the proprietor and the younger man warmed my heart. While I was choosing from the menu, they recommended 海苔弁当, so I went with that. It was reliably delicious. I'm not sure whether the side dishes change daily or weekly, but they were different from those in the reviews. That means you can enjoy it again and again. Much appreciated.

The fish here is fresh, but the fried items in the lunchtime 海苔弁当, such as menchi katsu and kakiage, are delicious too. At night, the sake is inexpensive, and you can enjoy a good drink with satsuma-age, anago tempura, simmered fish trimmings, and sashimi. Above all, the fish is fresh, and if you're lucky, you can get abalone, hiramasa, and more at low prices. The fried food has a wonderfully thin coating! Some days the appetizer is sake-steamed hamaguri clams. The atmosphere is nice too, and you can spend a relaxing time here.

It was full of Showa-era charm. I visited for lunch, and the daily special was sashimi & simmered fish. There were a few strands of soba in the red miso soup. Perhaps because the simmered fish was made from trimmings, it was mostly bones and didn't amount to much of a side dish. For +100円, you can upgrade the rice to a large portion, piled up like something from a manga. Service was quick, and overall it felt dependable. Unusually for these days, smoking seems to be allowed, and the office workers around me were having a smoke after their meals. I don't smoke, so that cost it a few points for me, but it may depend on the person. It may operate as an izakaya at night, and the menu was extensive, so evenings might be better. By the way, lunch payments seem to be cash only.

A long-established basement izakaya a short walk from 秋葉原. Lunch is affordable too. The drinks and food are delicious, so I recommend it, but smoking is allowed, so it may be rough depending on the timing and where you sit.

A truly old-fashioned Showa-era izakaya. (Smoking allowed) It's about 3 minutes from the Showa-dori exit of 秋葉原駅, across Showa-dori. It's in a building basement and barely noticeable from outside, but open the door and you're greeted by an old-school izakaya atmosphere. I've visited for lunch about 2 times, once for 角煮定食 and once for 海苔弁当. For variety, I recommend 海苔弁当 because you get to try various side dishes. (No food photos)
