A university cafeteria on the 17th floor that is open to the general public. Very cheap meals, and if you go on a clear day you get a great view from the seats near the window. Since it is a university cafeteria, the opening hours are shortened during winter and summer breaks.

The view is part of the flavor! I'm a member of the public, but it's easy to use this cafeteria. I never get tired of looking out the windows. Even after eating, it makes you want to linger over coffee or sweets. It was quiet because it was spring break. The seats facing the windows are nice when you're alone, since you don't have to feel self-conscious. The チキンのトマト煮 was delicious, and the chicken was tender. The side vegetables were broccoli and lettuce. There were quite a lot of vegetables, so I think it's a well-balanced meal. It comes with wakame miso soup. It was 560円, and you couldn't even buy this for that price at a convenience store, so I ate it gratefully. The portion might be a little small for a growing kid. They could probably manage another 1 bread roll.

味噌メンチカツ丼 500円, curry 400円. No tissues or paper napkins!! After visiting the museum in the basement of 明治大学 first thing in the morning, I went outside, walked a little downhill, and came to the university cafeteria on the 17th floor of リバティータワー. It had been ages since I'd been to an employee or university cafeteria, so I was excited. Naturally, being a university, there were lots of young students around campus. Thinking things like, "I hope you enjoy your youth while you're young!", "I wish I could go back to those days!", and "What an amazing place for a school! It's a high-rise!", I took the elevator up to the 17th floor and went to the cafeteria. The view outside was so amazing that I wondered whether students here would lose any appreciation for living in a residential tower or working in a high-rise. I went when it opened at 11, so it was quiet. After looking over the whole menu, I bought curry for 400円 and 味噌メンチ丼 for 500円 using Suica. Since it's a university cafeteria, you collect the food yourself, and I thought, "松屋 and すき家 use the same system!" The lines for curry and other dishes were separate, which confused me a little. I got the 味噌メンチカツ丼 first, reached over from the side to hand in my curry ticket, then collected the curry afterward. (I could do that because nobody was there, but normally you'd probably need to line up again.) You collect your own chopsticks, spoon, and water (no paper napkins), then sit by the window. It wasn't a case of "So delicious, I'm moved!!" The curry was a ready-to-heat packaged one, and although the menchi katsu was big, it wasn't about the taste. At a time when lunch costs over 1000円, eating 2 dishes for just 900円 was very cheap. I also got a high-rise view and the experience of visiting a university cafeteria, so it was really great!

The view was very nice, with an open, airy feeling. I had 豚骨ラーメン, but it felt like eating cream soup, haha. If you're having ramen, another flavor might be better.

Even compared with other university cafeterias, the taste ranges from the lower middle to the middle of the bottom tier. The menu isn't particularly extensive. ※ Every single staff member has a bad attitude. Low prices and the view are its only redeeming features. Some meal-ticket machines accept QR payments and Suica (during university summer and spring breaks, the QR-compatible machines aren't operating, leaving only Suica). Be very careful not to buy the wrong meal ticket. Anyone can make a mistake, but if you try asking for a refund, the staff are certain to give you grief, no matter how quiet a time you choose. Universities compete for students these days, and many schools put effort into varied cafeteria menus and nutritional balance. But 明大 seems to feel little urgency about this because it has so many students. At other universities, cafeteria receipts sometimes list the nutritional value of your order, but don't expect that at 明大. It specializes in just one thing: filling students' stomachs cheaply. The operator is "株式会社 師弟食堂赤倉ホテル". It appears to be affiliated with 赤倉ホテル in Myoko, Niigata (separate from 赤倉観光ホテル). Apparently the contracting relationship has continued since 1941. With such a long relationship, perhaps the university can't easily cut ties either. ※Be aware that the menu is reduced further during quieter periods, such as university summer and spring breaks. Side dishes like salads are almost never offered during these periods.
