Exhibits on Tokyo's water supply, from the Edo period to today, including excavated pipes & wells.

This is a PR facility of the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Waterworks (free) that presents, in an easy-to-understand way, exhibits on the 400-year history of Tokyo's water supply from the Edo period to the present day, as well as waterworks technology and facilities, using actual materials, reproduction models, video materials, and more. In the exhibition rooms, free audio guides [Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean] are available for loan, along with exhibit tours by attendants [for groups, reservation required], and the 3rd-floor library also offers reading and lending services for books related to waterworks and Edo. The museum is closed on "the 4th Monday of every month (the following day if it falls on a holiday)" and during the year-end and New Year holidays.

Very interesting history of waterworks in Edo-Tokyo. Fascinating to see the network of wooden pipes that carried water through the city in the Edo period. Displays are in Japanese but you can borrow a free audio player with point by point English guide for free. Lots of excavated wooden pipes, junctions and pieces of wells. The museum is also free.

Passed by this place while going from The University's Museum. Saw that admission is free and entered. No one could have prepared me for such an amazing and informative museum! You can get an English audio guide for free thats really easy to use and also great quality. It certainly helped to understand the exhibition, as there weren't many English signs. Definitely take the guide if you visit! The museum shows the waterworks in Edo/Tokyo in a very comprehensible and interesting manner. I admit, I wasn't particularly interested in urban water supply before, but I'll start paying more attention after visiting this museum!

English audio guide and QR codes help to make this museum accessible for English speakers. I enjoyed seeing how the history of Tokyo’s water system evolved.

If you find yourself at this museum it's probably because you like the topic. In that case you will likely enjoy it though if you don't speak Japanese and don't have the patience to use live Google translate on the text you will only get whatever info comes with the English audio guide (also free like the museum). There is a nice park out behind the museum as well.

An EXCELLENT museum experience that was also FREE :D i so appreciated the design and hard work that must have gone into making this museum and all the displays. Water infastructure is incredible, despite it not getting much attention in daily life. Highly recommend visiting here, ESPECIALLY excellent audio guide which is also free to use :) and there is a great park just outside behind the building. Loved my time here 👍👍
