Besides the taste, of course, their COVID-19 precautions are thorough, making this a restaurant you can visit with peace of mind even in these times. The lunch tendon is exceptionally good value. The optional shijimi clam miso soup never disappoints either. A restaurant that satisfies in every way.

てんぷら天庄別館 near 湯島天神. Coming from the 御茶ノ水 direction, the restaurant is on your left just before the traffic lights at 湯島天神山門(南面). For dinner, the struggle with your wallet comes first. But I recommend the lunch menu. You can enjoy a delicious meal without that struggle. Well, compared with chain restaurant prices, it does cost a fair amount… but if it’s not every day… it’s a tempura restaurant you’ll want to enjoy occasionally. 天庄 has also suspended dine-in service because of coronavirus, and when I passed by today (5/17), they were offering takeout. Shrimp tendon and vegetable tendon were each 1000円 (tax included), and there were other takeout options at 2100円 and so on. I chose the shrimp tendon, which came with 3 fried shrimp. The plump, springy texture of the shrimp… just what you’d expect from the craftsmanship of a long-established restaurant. It was delicious. If they’re still offering takeout next time, I’m thinking of trying a slightly pricier tempura takeout option. Please do visit when dine-in lunch resumes.

I usually visit the main restaurant at night, but I went to the annex for lunch. The tempura was delicious at lunch too. It’s not expensive, yet it really tastes good. Both the main restaurant and this place look like long-established restaurants, but they aren’t pretentious luxury places. Even dinner is just over 1万円 per person. (Though that depends on how much you drink.) But the taste is outstanding. If you want to savor the food, I recommend 天庄. You can enjoy the old downtown atmosphere too.

The tempura coming straight out of the fryer in front of you is crispy. The tempura made with freshly prepared anago was exquisite. The woman serving us was pleasant too, and I had a very satisfying lunch.
