Vintage Chinese restaurant with tasty, cheap food. Smoking allowed. Cash only. My "five treasures" fried rice was excellent with nice chewy bits of pork scattered among the other ingredients. The gyoza filling had a good taste but I like the wrapper to be cooked a bit more. The prices were excellent, the portions reasonable, but the sauce bottles were oily and in need of a wipe. My miso soup was served in a ceramic bowl that matched the dish for my fried rice. Recommended for fans of old fashioned Japanese-Chinese food.

A neighborhood Chinese restaurant a short walk from 江戸川橋駅 toward 護国寺. Neighborhood Chinese places open on Sundays are rare even in Tokyo, so I visited after hearing about it. It was an early lunch, so there were no other customers and I had the place to myself. Fortunately so, because there were ashtrays at every seat and it appeared to allow smoking, unusual these days, so I was glad not to be caught in smoke. The menu offers plenty of choices—not just Chinese dishes, but neighborhood Chinese staples like katsudon, omurice, and curry. After much deliberation, 【Zha cai noodles】800円【Omurice】650円【Meatballs】1000円+beer was my order, and the dishes started arriving in sequence after about 5 minutes. The zha cai noodles have a salt broth topped with stir-fried chopped zha cai and pork. The zha cai's flavor and texture are excellent, adding a refreshing savoriness to the animal-stock salt broth, while the pork adds richness and sweet fat, making a very delicious soup. The thin noodles pick it up well and taste good too. Usually this kind of zha cai ramen comes in a soy sauce broth, and I'd been looking for somewhere that serves it in a salt broth like this. The omurice tasted as though it had been stir-fried with ramen broth, but the ketchup balance was exquisite. With simple ham and onion fillings, it was easy to eat heartily, and very well made considering the price. Some customers apparently say the portions are small, but they're sufficient for the price. I ordered the meatballs on impulse, but their chunky texture and very crisp fried exterior were excellent. The seasoning had just the right saltiness, making them a great beer accompaniment. Honestly, the flavor stands up to nearby neighborhood Chinese restaurants famous for fried rice and such, and I think it's a good place. It seems to be run by an elderly couple, so I hope they keep going as long as possible. I'd like to drop in again for Sunday lunch.

江戸川橋 中華料理 川柳 Wonton noodles 650円 Back in 文京区 after a while Near the station, not far from 新雅 either The neon gives it a wonderfully old-time exterior The master seems to handle the dining room And the lady the kitchen? An arrangement you see now and then The menu prices are hard to believe for central Tokyo Even sweet-and-sour pork and shrimp dishes are under 1000円 After endless indecision, I felt it was fate To keep encountering wonton noodles lately, so I ordered them Lots of small wontons, the kind where you savor the wrappers And the wrappers really are tasty! If it's only 100円 more than ramen What bliss to get wontons for 100円! As the options in 江戸川橋 keep growing I've found another good spot😋 Thanks for the meal! #街中華 #町中華 #ラーメン #中華そば #ワンタンメン

First visit around 13:00 on Sunday. There were no customers, so I checked they were open and sat down. Red menu strips with black lettering are unusual. I ordered 1 go of 大関 sake at room temperature and mixed yakisoba (soft noodles). The yakisoba is made by grilling steamed noodles with vegetables and pork, then topping them with naruto, boiled egg, kamaboko, chashu, and snow peas. It has an oyster-sauce-based flavor. A smallish portion, but I think 650円 is cheap. The sake was 550円, making 1200円 total. Satisfied.
