Looking at the menu outside, I suddenly felt like hayashi rice for some reason and went straight in. A coffee shop run by the owner alone. The hayashi rice is the hashed-beef-rice type, without tomato acidity, with a refined, rich European-style finish. The katsu curry I had on another day was irresistible too, with rich European-style curry and tender katsu. I'm well into middle-aged-man territory myself, and I've started to understand why middle-aged men love coffee shop food.

I visited for lunch. The interior is small, but its distinctive retro Showa atmosphere is relaxing. The hamburger steak is tender and delicious. It's also nice that it comes with a fried egg and salad. The chocolate cake was smooth and delicious too. The owner was a nice person as well.

An old-fashioned coffee shop apparently run by the owner alone. Comics at the entrance and ashtrays on the tables reminded me how many places like this there were 30 years ago. The menchi katsu curry came with a generous salad for 960円 and left me full.

I had pork fillet katsu curry rice for lunch. It was very delicious. The crisply fried katsu had a light sprinkling of cheese and was easy to eat, and the curry tasted good too. The salad was nicely dressed as well, showing attention to detail. With its older exterior and interior and a quiet elderly owner working alone, perhaps the atmosphere makes it hard to enter, as the place was empty—a shame. I'd like to visit again.

A Showa-style coffee shop tucked quietly into a residential neighborhood. It's up Rengejizaka from Hakusan Station. I ordered hamburger curry (950円) and blended coffee (400円). The elderly owner seems to run it alone, so service can take considerably longer, especially at lunchtime, but that's part of its charm. It has a somewhat unusual atmosphere that women might find hard to approach...? Prices are slightly high overall, but the food tastes good, and lovers of old-fashioned coffee shops can relax here.
