We went there with a friend and the vibe and restaurant is really great. Local place where Japanese come eat their lunch in a quiet atmosphere. The owner asks us if we spoke Japan (which we do a little), then show us what to do. We chose the bowl for our rice, then we waited patiently for her to serve us our food. Which is a fixed menu, you don’t get to chose it. But it was very good and we had a good time there. If you come by there a you are not afraid of not knowing what you will eat, this is the place for you. Thank you to that owner for welcoming us foreigner.

An eatery near the end of the Jizo-dori shopping street in Edogawabashi. I had been curious about it for a while, but it also sells bento and the dining area opens at 12, so the timing never quite worked out and I hadn't visited. Once I stopped by before 13 and it was full, so it was clearly popular, which raised my expectations. It's a peaceful place with counter seating only. Rice bowls of different sizes are lined up; you choose one for your preferred portion, put it on the counter, and then order one of 3 set meals. The proprietress explained the process. For lunch, you choose grilled fish, agedashi tofu, or curry, then white rice or multigrain rice. I ordered 【Chicken curry (hot)/multigrain rice】1,000円 and it arrived in about 5 minutes. The set includes chicken curry, simmered dried daikon, chicken and fried tofu steeped in dashi, dressed okara, pickles, multigrain rice, and miso soup. All 3 small side dishes were gently seasoned, with a deliciousness that slowly seeps into your body. The portions were substantial too, so I really enjoyed them. They seemed like great accompaniments to alcohol as well, so good that I wished the place opened in the evening. I hadn't read the curry menu carefully. At first it had a gentle flavor with a hint of vegetable sweetness, like homemade curry, but toward the end a powerful wave of heat surprised me. The ingredients were the usual chicken, carrots, onions, and potatoes, giving an impression of sweetness, but I thought the proprietress's technique in adding a solid spicy punch was wonderful. Still, the heat was manageable, so I enjoyed how it paired with the multigrain rice, along with the tender chicken and vegetables. The miso soup also had simple ingredients, egg and onion, but the egg was incorporated at just the right firmness. It was my first time having miso soup with ingredients prepared that way, and I was surprised and impressed. Customers kept coming to buy bento while I ate, and the proprietress looked busy. Before I knew it, the dining area was full too; it really is popular. Next time I'd like to try something other than curry.

The proprietress certainly isn't the friendliest, but I think she just has an artisan's temperament (shy around strangers). The food is delicious. The fact that the place has lasted over 20 years is solid proof. The interior and tabletops are thoroughly cleaned and very tidy. ●●Omurice (Probably to let the demi-glace stand out) The chicken rice itself is lightly seasoned. It uses red sausages, and overall it had a delicious, nostalgic flavor. ●●Miso soup The ingredients are onion and thick fried tofu. The dashi base pairs beautifully with the sweetness of the onion. For miso soup at a set-meal restaurant, I was impressed by how much care went into making it. ●●Small side dishes You can tell that every dish takes time and effort to prepare. And yet, they're so delicious you wonder whether it's really okay to charge so little. ●The bento seems popular, with customers constantly arriving at the takeout window to buy it. Several varieties had sold out, which showed its popularity. ■■■ Several people mention special rules, but they're just things like: ・Sanitize your hands ・Choose a large, medium, or small rice bowl ・Put your tray on the counter when finished There isn't a single arbitrary rule. It's more like “it might be a little unclear on your first visit.” There's no need to get worked up about it. ■■■ The food is unquestionably delicious, so if the service or house rules bother you, I strongly recommend takeout.

A meticulously and thoughtfully prepared lunch. You can feel the effort put into every dish, and the food, made with so many ingredients, is all truly delicious. On your first visit, the lady who runs the place might look a little intimidating. But as you keep coming, you realize she's actually very approachable, kind, and warm. The menu changes every day, so there's the fun of wondering, “What will it be today?” It makes you want to keep visiting. It really makes sense that there are so many regulars. For a meal with this much time and care put into it, it's amazingly just 1000円. You can't help being surprised by how satisfying it is.

I visited for lunch on a weekday. There's a bento shop with an adjoining counter-seat dining area, and the bento were selling one after another. When I arrived at 12:15, there were no customers dining in, so it was relaxed. There's only 1 lunch menu, priced above 1000円, so perhaps the bento business is doing better. When you enter, they ask whether you want hot or cold tea and how much rice. You answer the rice question by choosing the size of a sample bowl on display. There are several sizes, from small dishes to large rice bowls. They don't ask what menu you want; after a little over 10 minutes, everything is served on a tray. You can choose white or multigrain rice. Today's menu was shijimi clam miso soup, shrimp with mayonnaise, chili shrimp, negitoro, sesame-dressed okra, hijiki, taro potato salad, and cucumber pickles. None of it was exceptionally delicious, but it was comforting, like being back at my parents' home. The taro potato salad was pleasantly sticky and delicious. They'd probably get more customers if it were exactly 1000円. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.
