A stone paved path through a small courtyard leading to a sliding door of a wood house, inside which oden is elevated to an art form. The gourd is the theme of decoration, the light fixture, wall panel, condiments bottle, chopstick stand are all in this cute shape, and so is the main brass pot where the chef cook up the handcrafted oden. The pieces are all delicious, the traditional pieces like daikon, seaweed are spot on, and there're also interesting pieces like quail egg wrapped in some mixture of chicken and tofu, spicy minced chicken. Plenty of choices of sake are also in offer. All in all it's a fantastic place to experience the potential of oden.

What an unforgettable experience at this local traditional oden shop. As “gaijins” we were initially intimidated by the shop front which was located in a dimly lit alley and the only light illuminating the shop front from far was from a red lantern that says “oden”. No one spoke english and the diners were all locals but we made it through the ordering. Old private house style, the oden broth was prepared w a traditional gourd shaped pot and each ingredient was so fresh and yummy, well containing the umami of the broth from being simmered in the pot for hours. The daikon was legendary, i wish i have the appetite to eat 10 pieces. It was so comforting to eat this in the cold weather. Thank you for having us.
