A black tea specialty shop I stopped by after visiting an owl cafe in Yanaka. Along with overseas teas, you can choose your preferred leaves from across Japan and have the owner brew them. (I selected leaves from a naturally growing variety in my home prefecture.) I chatted with the owner while enjoying the sweets included in the set. I was also given a complimentary tea selected by the owner. As time passed leisurely, I got to enjoy delicious Japanese black tea for the first time.
View on GoogleA tea specialty shop with a wide selection, focusing on Japanese black tea! For pricing, you can basically think of it as ¥1500 for a set with sweets! (Cash only💰) Apparently they've been running the shop for 18 years and also offer tea classes. The female owner loves Britain and has a distinctive personality, so whether you get along may depend on the person, haha. There are lots of unique shops nearby too, so it might be nice to stop here while taking a walk. I'll come back to try another kind of tea♪ Thank you for the treats! 【If this was helpful, give it a like👍!】
View on Google2025.12 A Japanese black tea specialty shop. You can buy tea leaves in aluminum packaging to take home or enjoy tea inside. An interesting feature is the irregularly held tea classes (announced on Instagram), which focus on particular regions and selected tea estates representing those regions, letting you sample several Japanese black teas. Photos 1 and 2 show the 4 teas featured in the class. However, you also drink several "bonus" teas chosen by the owner, so you can sample around 10 varieties in total.
View on GoogleBlack tea to finish our tour of Geikoten! So we went in. First, we were overwhelmed by the variety of tea leaves from different regions of Japan. Then the owner calmly and carefully explained all sorts of things. We could choose our preferred teacups, and the pots held 3-4 cups; since there were 3 of us, we got to enjoy teas from 3 regions. The sweet was baumkuchen, and we were given complimentary apples, leaving us very satisfied. It's a shop I'd like to visit again.
View on GoogleA cafe specializing in black tea, not far from Nezu Station. There aren't that many black tea specialty cafes, so I immediately decided to visit. There are rows of little jars containing Japanese-grown black tea leaves, but honestly, I didn't know how to choose.. The staff didn't really seem inclined to explain the flavors in detail either; their attitude seemed more like, choose freely? I'd read reviews before going, so I was mentally prepared, haha, but I think it depends on the person whether this place suits them. As for the actual taste, it was a conventional black tea, but had depth and was delicious. For snacks, you choose from baumkuchen, pudding, and ohagi. I thought I'd choose pudding if it was firm, but somehow felt hesitant to ask, so I went with baumkuchen. You can choose your teacup, there are lots of books, and there was an exhibition of paintings, though that might depend on the timing. I think being able to spend time without getting bored is another good point. There were 2 turtles wandering around on the floor, and they were cute. When moving around, I took care not to accidentally step on them.
