I wanted karaage in my lunch bento, and this was the shop I found. The karaage is simply delicious! The bento was delicious even after taking it home and eating it cold. By the way, I recommend the soboro bento topped with egg and ground meat (with 2 pieces of karaage)! There are always lots of customers, but I'm convinced that's proof of its popularity.
View on GoogleA takeaway-only karaage shop very close to Hongo-sanchome Station. I visited around 12:30 on a public holiday, but the display case was somewhat depleted, so it seems quite popular. The karaage here has a thin coating with just the right crispness, and the thigh meat is juicy with a well-balanced flavor that's neither too strong nor too mild. Of course, it's delicious cold too. The meat itself doesn't have the texture or umami of premium branded chicken, but neither does it have the unpleasant smell of cheap broiler chicken, so I think they use reasonably good meat. Each piece is around 40g, a standard size, and it's definitely much better than buying it at a supermarket. I'm curious about the bento too, so I'll try one next time. Cash and paypay were accepted. Their only regular closing day is Sunday, and they apparently open on public holidays unless they fall on Sunday. (As of November 2023)
View on GoogleVisited around 17 on a weekday. I had salt-seasoned karaage, garlic karaage, and the daily special of green shiso tsukune with salt sauce. All the karaage was freshly fried! The garlic karaage has a very strong garlic flavor. It's delicious, but if garlic causes you problems, they also have garlic-free karaage. So thoughtful~ If you want it freshly fried, this might be a good time to visit.
View on GoogleI was curious about this place before, so I bought a cheese chicken katsu bento. It was fried so crisply it couldn't compare with ordinary nearby bento shops, and the accompanying rolled egg, macaroni, and takana were delicious too. Remembering that, I went back another day for lunch, but there was a huge queue and bento were selling rapidly, leaving fewer choices, so I chose the karaage bento. That was inexpensive and very delicious too; apparently they use domestic chicken, and the karaage was tender with a sweet flavor. If you want plenty of options, I recommend going early!! I'm also curious about their evening side dishes, so I'll buy some eventually and report back.
View on GoogleThe display looks upscale, but since they don't advertise using domestic chicken, it's probably Brazilian. Only garlic-free karaage was on display, and when I tried it, it seemed fairly freshly fried. It looks strongly seasoned, but it's a classic home-style karaage with a soy sauce base and a noticeable ginger flavor.
