One of the best tonkachi restaurants in Ueno area. Their tonkachi sandos is awesome.

Very local place, quite crowded, super tasty.

Although I’ve been eating their sandwiches for ages, this was my first time eating tonkatsu at the restaurant… so I decided to go all out and order the special loin set. It wasn’t fried to that precise point where the cut surface is just pink… but as rumored, you can cut it with chopsticks. After all, if it’s as tender as fillet, that texture must come from preparation beyond simply cutting the sinews. There is no reason to complain about the balance of price and taste, and I came away thinking that the location and atmosphere are also part of what makes 井泉. And the tonjiru that comes to mind when you think of a tonkatsu restaurant… was no mere supporting act, but deeply delicious and comforting. I forgot to take a photo, but the crab and cucumber salad was one serving sized for two, beautifully presented, and tasty enough to be made into sandwiches. ※We entered with a reservation, glancing at the queue that had formed before opening, but when we finished eating and left, only one party was waiting. Perhaps even with a long queue, you can get in within an hour. At peak time, staff from the kitchen also helped serve and clear tables…. Their movements and language made me feel this restaurant doesn’t rest on its long-established reputation.
